Best Western Plus La Demeure is a stylish three-pearl boutique property south of the Latin Quarter, in the 13th arrondissement near the Jardin des Plantes. Two young designers refashioned the interior of this Haussmann building with plenty of carefully considered quirkiness, while still retaining the classic elegance of the original. The 43 air-conditioned rooms are designer-industrial chic, and include free Wi-Fi, iPod docks, flat-screen TVs, and espresso machines; a few rooms have balconies -- some with views of the Eiffel Tower, the Pantheon, and the Tour Montparnasse. Themed suites include Suite Cinema, which has a projection room and 120 films to watch. Family-owned and operated, Best Western Plus La Demeure has reasonable rates, and it draws a wide swath of visitors, including couples, families, solo, and business travelers. If rooms are unavailable here, the three-pearl Hotel Palm - Asotel in the 9th arrondissement offers a good alternative.
Scene
Open and airy with designer-chic appeal in the rooms and common spaces
Best Western Plus La Demeure is housed in a beautiful six story Haussmann building surrounded by residences. Its entryway, up a short staircase over which hangs a small crystal chandelier, opens onto a lobby that looks more like a designer living room than a hotel. The ceiling, walls, and curtains are an immaculate white with small, delicate lamps hanging from the ceiling. The centerpiece is a light-wood drawing table set on a multi-colored wood floor, with a Mac computer and iPad available for guests' use, and eight blue stools, with colorful couches and lounge chairs scattered about. The vibe changes in the adjacent "evening lounge," with its white-leather sofas, gold-rimmed tables, space-age armchairs, shingled floor lamps, and Philippe Starck mirrors resting against the wall. The breakfast room has a hand-painted tropical-themed mural on one wall, and a small adjacent patio.
Location
In the 13th arrondissement, south of the Latin Quarter, within walking distance of restaurants, shops, and the metro
The hotel is located on Boulevard Saint Marcel in a
residential area of the 13th arrondissement, just south of the Latin Quarter. Bistro Au Bon Coin is next door, and more restaurants, patisseries, and shops are within a 10-minute
walk. Rue Mouffetard, one of Paris' oldest and most famous market streets, is a 13-minute walk away. The Saint-Marcel (Line 5) and the Gobelins and Censier-Daubenton (Line 7) metro stations are three blocks away, and four bus lines stop outside the hotel. Gare
d'Austerlitz, Jardin des Plants, and the Natural History Museum are within a 15-minute walk, and the Louvre is about 20-minutes away by metro. Charles
de Gaulle Airport is a 45-minute drive from the hotel, depending on traffic, or about an hour and a
half via public transportation.
Rooms
Sleek with sheer curtains and metal bed frames; suites include separate living areas
Like the rest of the hotel, rooms are modern and stylish and decorated with a designer’s eye. Beds have industrial black metal bed frames, with small reading lamps attached. Curtains are airy white
linen dip-dyed in bright red at the top. All rooms come with mounted flat-screen
TVs, safes, espresso machines, tea kettles, and free Wi-Fi. Double Superior Rooms have narrow balconies that seat two, as do Eiffel Rooms, which come with a bottle of free Champagne and views that extend to the Eiffel Tower. Suites, which include breakfast, have separate living areas with additional beds or couches, and colorful divider curtains. The Cinema Suite has a projection lounge and a home cinema of 120 films controlled by a touch-screen tablet computer. Bathrooms are slick, with hairdryers, towel dryers, toiletries, and rain
showerheads either in a glass shower or a shower/tub combo.
