Bottom Line

Bourgogne et Montana Hotel by MH is an upscale boutique located behind the National Assembly in the 7th Arrondissement. The hotel’s 31 guest rooms are elegantly decorated with soft gray and plum tones, and feature posh bathrooms with sleek geometric tile work. Breakfast is served daily in the hotel’s swanky breakfast room, but it’s pricey for what’s offered. Bourgogne et Montana also has a subterranean spa with a massage bed and sauna, which guests are free to use whenever it’s available. Even though the hotel is located in the 7th Arrondissement, it’s still a 20-minute walk from the Eiffel Tower. Travelers looking for a hotel that’s closer to the famous landmark might prefer Hotel La Bourdonnais, though Bourgogne et Montana has nicer decor.

Bourgogne et Montana Hotel by MH

Scene

A quiet hotel that attracts a diverse array of international travelers

Bourgogne et Montana sits on a quiet side street across from the National Assembly. The area doesn’t see too much hustle and bustle, just the comings and goings of businessmen and politicians. The hotel is located in a six-story Haussmannian townhouse with gold lettering marking its entrance, with automatic sliding glass doors leading to the posh lobby where the lacquered black-and-gold front desk makes a polished first impression. Decor is classically French, but also playfully funky. Pale-gray walls with white frame molding create a traditional aesthetic that’s turned upside down by mauve velvet chairs, turquoise ottomans, and striped rugs. A rose gold mirror hangs above a marble fireplace, which creates a compelling juxtaposition around the seating area’s focal wall. Alternating black-and-white tiles are arranged in a striped pattern across the floor — the final twist in this splashy take on elegant style.

The majority of guests at Bourgogne et Montana are couples and other groups of adults. During our visit, we encountered Americans, Australians, Brits, Chinese, and Germans, and the hotel regularly hosts an international crowd. Kids are welcome, and families will feel at ease here — the atmosphere isn’t uptight or whisper quiet — but there isn’t anything for them to do on the premises or in the surrounding neighborhood.

Location

In a quiet neighborhood in the 7th Arrondissement, a 20-minute walk from the Eiffel Tower

Bourgogne et Montana is located in the 7th Arrondissement, which is most notably known as the home of the Eiffel Tower. Though it houses France’s most famous landmark, the area rather boring — it’s mostly composed of international consulates and quiet bourgeois apartments. Bourgogne et Montana’s immediate location, directly behind the National Assembly, is almost yawn-worthy, and it’s still a solid 20-minute walk from the Eiffel Tower. On the bright side, the hotel is a 10-minute walk to Pont Alexandre III, Musee d’Orsay, and the Tuileries Gardens. Plus, it’s a five-minute walk from the gorgeous esplanade of Les Invalides. The nearest metro stations are Invalides (lines 8, 13, and RER C) and Assemblee Nationale (line 12). Both are about a four-minute walk. Charles de Gaulle International Airport is about a 50-minute drive from the hotel, while Orly International Airport takes about 40-minutes. Keep in mind that these times can alter drastically during rush hour.

Rooms

Beautifully decorated with elegant French decor, but some are tight on space

Guest rooms at Bourgogne et Montana are elegantly decorated with classic Parisian finishes. While rooms aren’t quite as flashy as the lobby, they have a crisp, clean look that feels timeless. Pale gray-and-plum tones set the stage. Frame moldings give them a stately feel, while hanging black-and-white photographs of Paris allude to the hotel’s locality. In-room amenities include fully stocked minibars and snack trays (for a fee), tiny desk spaces, wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, electronic safes, and free Wi-Fi. Besides the entry-level category, all rooms have Nespresso machines as well. Bathrooms run the gamut from cramped to fairly spacious, but all have a bold black-and-white aesthetic that seems like a complete departure from the bedrooms’ classic look. Funky geometric tile work adds visual interest around the shower/tub combos, and floating vanities with round basin sinks look strikingly modern. Bathrooms are equipped with fluffy robes and slippers, heated towel racks, and an array of nice toiletries. None of the rooms at Bourgogne et Montana have outdoor space, but a few on the upper floor offer peeps of the Seine.

There are four room types at Bourgogne et Montana: classic, superior, executive, and exclusive. Starting at 160 square feet, classic rooms are the smallest. These entry-level rooms are tight on space, even by Paris standards, and some travelers may find them inconveniently small. The classic room we visited felt cramped and had a tiny bathroom that made us feel like we were on a cruise ship, so upgrading to a superior room is a smart bet even with the extra cost. Superior rooms have more space (195 square feet), bigger bathrooms, and the added bonus of in-room Nespresso machines. Executive rooms have small seating areas adjacent to the bedroom, and they also have larger bathrooms. Interconnecting executive rooms are available for families or groups traveling together. Exclusive rooms are the nicest of all, with tall ceilings, herringbone parquet floors, and 250 square feet of space. Exclusive rooms are the only room type that can accommodate three people, with the addition of a rollaway bed.

Features

A pricey breakfast buffet, a small spa, and free Wi-Fi

There isn’t a lot going on at Bourgogne et Montana. The hotel doesn’t have a full-service restaurant or a fitness center, which doesn’t give guests many reasons to stick around during the day. Every morning, the hotel serves a small breakfast buffet for an additional fee. While the offerings are plentiful, but there isn’t much variety, just a few pastries, yogurt, cold cuts, and cheeses. In our opinion, the buffet isn’t worth its hefty price tag.

Below the lobby in the hotel’s basement, there’s a private massage room and sauna. Guests can use the sauna for free whenever it’s available, but massages cost extra and must be booked in advance. The spa is beautifully decorated with dark navy walls, a recessed gold ceiling, and twinkling lights that resemble stars.

Bourgogne et Montana offers free Wi-Fi throughout, which works well across the property. Alternatively, guests can access the internet on the lobby computer.
