Rooms are small but modern with stylish accents and wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, kettles, and safes. Lack of air-conditioning can be an issue during the summer. From its wholly nondescript signage to its unremarkable, modern facade, first impressions of the Classics Hotel Bastille are more than a little underwhelming. Stepping inside, the lobby has contemporary furnishings and a smart gray reception desk, but this makeover doesn't quite stretch to the largely drab hallways. The breakfast room is set in a sunny conservatory, however, and it overlooks a pretty, plant-filled garden which is a secluded and restful space to unwind.

While there's not much in the way of tourist attractions in the immediate area, there are plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby, and the nearest Metro stop -- Charonne -- is a couple minutes' walk away. Alternatively, its about a 20-minute cab journey to the Louvre and Notre Dame Cathedral in the heart of the city.
