Bottom Line

The 36-room upscale Hotel Le Marquis Eiffel is in a quiet residential area of the 15th Arrondissement, within walking distance of the Champs de Mars and the Eiffel Tower. It's also conveniently close to two metro stations, Dupleix and the larger La Motte Picquet Grenelle, which connects to three other lines. Decorated like a modern homage to the Parisian dandy, it has a little lobby bar, an outdoor garden patio, and trendy rooms with 40-inch flat-screens and minibars. A few rooms on high floors have views of the Eiffel Tower, and Executive Rooms add espresso machines and smartphones. With no full restaurant or fitness center, facilities are slim and travelers might want to check out larger hotels that are closer to the Eiffel Tower with more amenities and comparable rates, such as the Mercure Paris Centre Eiffel Tower Hotel.

Hotel Le Marquis

Scene

Boutique-style hotel with a dandy-inspired theme

Hotel Le Marquis was renovated in the summer of 2015, and its modern decor was inspired by Oscar Wilde, with whimsical nods to the culture of the Parisian dandy throughout its dark gray and yellow interiors. Geometric patterns and cigar-shaped columns covered in playful Illustrations depict a world where everyone wears a top hat and a butterfly knot. Regardless of their attire, guests receive welcome treats like Champagne, fruit juice, or jam. Two parakeets named Oscar and Coco are the friendly resident fops, preening themselves in a large iron birdcage standing in the middle of the hall between the breakfast room and the chic little lobby bar.

Location

On a quiet street across from a supermarket, within walking distance of the Eiffel Tower

The hotel is located in a quiet, residential area of the 15th Arrondissement, within a 15-minute walk of the Eiffel Tower and the banks of the Seine. The lovely Champ de Mars park, a popular picnic spot by the Eiffel Tower, is three blocks away, and Ecole Militaire is around the corner. There's a supermarket across from the hotel, along with a boulangerie down the street, and lots of restaurants are within walking distance. Rue Cler, one of Paris' most well-known market streets, is about a 15-minute walk north. Two metro stations, Dupleix and La Motte Picquet Grenelle, are within a six-minute walk (La Motte Picquet Grenelle station connects to three other lines).

Rooms

Stylish rooms with 40-inch flat-screen TVs; some have espresso machines and Juliet baclonies

The Hotel Le Marquis Eiffel's 36 rooms come in two types: Classic Rooms with two double beds or a queen-size bed and larger street-facing Executive Rooms with a queen-size bed. Rooms are on the small side but have enough space for a bedside chair and small work desks. Free Wi-Fi comes standard, along with 40-inch flat-screen TVs, minibars, and kettles with coffee and tea. A dark palette favors gray and brown, accented by primary colors that vary by room. Geometric prints add more visual interest, paired with black-and-white period photos that match the hotel's dandy theme. Bathrooms are cramped but modern, with lighted vanities, heated towel racks, and either walk-in showers or shower/tub combos. Executive Rooms add espresso machines and smartphones for guests' use. The street-side rooms on higher floors have views of the Eiffel Tower, and some have Juliet balconies.

Features

Small lobby bar, outdoor patio, breakfast room, internet corner, and free Wi-Fi

As a small boutique hotel, Le Marquis Eiffel is big on charm but not on facilities. It has little lobby bar just big enough for a pair of stools, with more seating on soft couches with yellow piping. There's also a cozy lounge with a fireplace, free newspapers, and an internet corner with a laptop and a printer. There's no full restaurant, but breakfast (pastries, along with cold meats and cheeses) is available for an added charge, and is served in an open dining room or outside on the lovely garden patio at tables shaded by canvas umbrellas. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
