Bottom Line

Hotel Le Walt, a chic upper-middle-range boutique property in the seventh arrondissement, is about a 15-minute walk to the Eiffel Tower. The 25 rooms, which come with satellite TV, DVD players, minibars, and free Wi-Fi; they receive lots of natural light, and the sleek bathrooms have rainfall showers and towel warmers. An open-design bar and breakfast room share an outdoor terrace with umbrella-covered tables, but the hotel has no full restaurant, spa, or fitness center. Hotel Le Walt is part of the Paris-based Inwood Hotels group, and guests might want to also check out its nearby sister hotel, Le Marquis -- it has similar amenities but is a bit larger.

Hotel Le Walt

Scene

Open modern spaces with classical paintings

Airy rooms filled with natural light and curtain partitions add flow to Hotel Le Walt's open-design layout. Designer Paul Sartre combined bright whites and angular furniture in spaces with reproduction oil paintings whose originals hang in the Louvre. More paintings adorn the hallways -- floor lights accent them with dramatic flair.

Location

On the Left Bank near the Eiffel Tower

Hotel Le Walt sits on a long, busy avenue full of hotels, shops, and restaurants between Esplanade des Invalides and the Eiffel Tower, in the residential seventh arrondissement. Rue Cler, one of Paris' most well-known market streets, is a two-minute walk from the hotel, and the Musee Rodin is about a 15-minute walk. The Ecole Militaire metro stop is almost at the hotel's front door (Line 8), which connects to several of the city's major sights.

Rooms

Work desks, rainfall showers, oil paintings

Massive oil paint reproductions double as Renaissance backdrops and opulent headboards in all 25 guest rooms. Rich hardwood floors and contemporary beechwood furniture -- with blue and orange accents -- add warmth. There are only two room categories: Classic and larger Executive Rooms. All rooms have small work desks and minibars -- which are stocked with free nonalcoholic beverages in the Executive Rooms, DVD players, and free Wi-Fi. The wall-mounted flat-screen TVs are smartly positioned for optimal viewing from the bed (not always the case in small Paris rooms). The sleek modern bathrooms have heated towel racks, the hotel chain's brand toiletries, and either large walk-in rainfall showers or tiled shower/tub combos.

Features

Bar and breakfast room, outdoor terrace, business corner

Hotel Le Walt has a noticeably bright breakfast room (it's on the ground floor rather than in a basement). The continental breakfast includes breads, croissants, jam, fresh fruit, juice, coffee, and tea, but it is not included in the room rate. The attached bar and lounge also has an espresso machine and both connect to the terrace, which has umbrella covered tables -- there are no street views here, but discreet outdoor seating in the center of Paris. The lobby has a business nook, with a laptop and printer for guests' use. Newspapers and Wi-Fi are free.
