Bottom Line

Tucked in one of Paris’s main commercial districts, the upper-middle-range, boutique Hotel Oscar occupies just one floor of a classic 19th-century Haussmann building, rather than the entire property. Despite the limited square footage, the six stylish rooms and suites accommodate several modern comforts, from iPad minis and free Wi-fi to small kitchenettes with Nespresso and Special.T machines. The hotel is ideally located within walking distance to the Champs-Élysées, Arc de Triomphe, and metro stations. Apart from an optional in-room breakfast (for a charge), there aren’t any additional amenities or lounging areas here, and the reception staff is unavailable at night. For a more traditional setup and space to kick back, travelers may prefer the nearby Hotel Francois 1er, which has a lounge bar, meeting rooms, and similar nightly rates.

Oyster Hotel Review

Chez Oscar Appart’hotel Champs Elysees

Scene

Limited to just one floor of a classic Haussmann apartment building

Tucked on the second level of a historic, terraced Haussmann-style residential building, Hotel Oscar can be difficult to find given its unlikely location and unclear signage. Limited to one floor, the hotel has little space for amenities, lounging areas, or dining rooms, and consists of just a small reception area in front of a hallway that branches out to apartment-style rooms. While the interiors are small, they’re uncluttered and visually appealing. Unlike the rest of the building’s classic carpeted stairwells and vintage elevator, the actual hotel goes for a modern aesthetic, with sleek wood walls and front desk offset by a vibrant red couch. The teal blue overhead chandelier provides a fun accent. Quiet, private, and simple, the hotel may not be conducive for families, but it’s a big draw for couples or business travelers looking for comfort without a lot of frills.

Location

On a street off the Champs-Élysées; walkable to Arc de Triomphe and two Metro stations

On a quiet, cafe-lined street, a seven-minute walk from the luxury boutiques and nightlife of Montaigne Avenue and the famous Champs-Élysées, the hotel’s address in the middle of the commercial 8th Arrondissement is a huge perk for both sightseeing and business purposes. The Arc de Triomphe is a 13-minute walk away, while the Trocadéro Gardens are a 17-minute walk away. Six to 10 minutes on foot will reach two metro stations. Trains to other popular attractions like the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre Museum take no more than 15 minutes. The Latin Quarter and Notre Dame Cathedral are also easily accessible within 30 minutes by public transport. Charles de Gaulle Airport is 40 minutes away by car, while Orly is a 30-minute drive away.

Rooms

Contemporary decor and modern kitchen nooks within apartment-like spaces

There are just six rooms to choose from at this small hotel. Standard Double Rooms aren’t exceptionally spacious, but with queen beds and curtained-off seating areas, they’re comfortable for one or two people. Carpeted floors, simple wood furniture, and minimal decor keep the spaces from looking cluttered. Naked lightbulbs and funky, multicolored wall prints are stylish, contemporary touches. Several rooms come with lovely views of the street or the courtyard behind the building.

The apartment-style setup includes a small kitchen corner equipped with dishware, flatware, sinks, Nespresso coffeemakers with coffee pods, Special.T tea makers, toasters, and mini-fridges. Flat-screen TVs, iPad minis, iPhone docking stations, air-conditioning, safes, and free and fast Wi-Fi make even standard-level rooms feel extra upscale and modern. Ironing equipment is included in all but the Standard Double Rooms (where it can be requested). Baby cots can also be provided.

Neutral-toned bathrooms are compact but well kept. These include single or double sink vanities and small, walk-in showers with both rainfall and handheld showerheads. Hairdryers and natural toiletries from the Le Couvent des Minimes brand are provided.

Larger Junior, Deluxe, and Executive Suites are similarly decorated, but come with separate living areas and bedrooms, including sofa beds and bigger kitchen nooks with ovens and more cabinet space. Suite bathrooms also come with shower/tub combos with handheld showerheads.

Features

Limited features include extra nighttime security and in-room breakfast for extra fees

Given the hotel’s extremely limited space, guests are mostly self-sufficient and travelers should expect few amenities here. Like many boutique Paris hotels, there are no fitness facilities, business center, parking, bar, or restaurants here. The reception desk closes at night, and guests are assigned personal codes for access to the front entrance and each room after hours for extra security. A lovely continental breakfast can be delivered to rooms for an extra fee if the meal is requested in advance. The hotel can also arrange an airport shuttle for a surcharge. Wi-Fi throughout the hotel is free.
