Hotel Royal Saint Michel

The Hotel Royal Saint Michel hotel is housed in a quintessential six-story Parisian building, with elegant architectural details, swirling wrought-iron Juliet balconies, and a gently curved roof. Inside, the lobby and reception areas feature wood-paneled walls, red carpeting, gray tile floors, and black-and-white framed photographs, which come together in a tasteful and traditional look. A red-carpeted staircase curves around the tiny elevator that ascends up the six flights. Within a stone's throw of the Seine and Notre Dame, the hotel is a magnet for tourists.

The Hotel Royal Saint Michel sits on the northern end of the Boulevard Saint Michel, couched between the Boulevard Saint-Germain and the Seine River in the Latin Quarter. It's within walking distance of several major sights, such as Notre Dame Cathedral and Sainte Chapelle, and the Louvre. The Sorbonne and Luxembourg Gardens can also be reached on foot. And it's also within easy walking distance to several restaurants, bars, and shops. The hotel is about a one-minute walk to the nearest metro at Saint Michel, where Line 4 cuts across the city north to south.

The 39 rooms at the Hotel Royal Saint Michel are traditionally decorated with a slightly old-fashioned vibe. Rich red wall-to-wall carpeting and velvety red fabrics pair perfectly with light wood furniture and beige-and-cream-colored walls with white molding. Light wood headboards have attached reading lamps, while tiny nightstands have slender lamps; beds have pillow-top mattresses. Bathrooms feature brown-and-white tiling and brass-colored accents. Single rooms measure approximately 150 square feet, Double and Twin Rooms about 170 square feet, and Triple rooms about 180 square feet. Connecting rooms are available, as are rooms with small wrought-iron balconies offering pleasant street views.

Rooms are air-conditioned and in-room amenities include well-stocked minibars, coffee- and tea-making facilities, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, free Wi-Fi (though some guests complain it's slow), and wardrobes with storage space and safes. Windows are double-glazed as a buffer against exterior noise. Bathrooms feature heated towel racks, hairdryers, and toiletries. 

Like many small, boutique-style hotels, the Hotel Royal Saint Michel doesn't pack in many extra features. There's a small but charming breakfast room serving a daily buffet with hot and cold items, though it's not included in all room rates. The hotel's reception desk is open 24 hours, and a multilingual staff can help with dry cleaning/laundry service, concierge services, and airport transportation. A computer and printer are available for guests' use. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, but guests have complained that the connection is spotty. For families traveling with children, cots, changing pads, bottle warmers, irons and ironing boards, are available upon request.
