Bottom Line

The mid-range Ibis Bastille Opera offers the attractive combination of a prime location and good rates. Located in the 11th Arrondissement, it's a brief walk to Place de la Bastille, a metro station, and numerous restaurants, nightclubs, and boutiques. Its 305 no-frills rooms are clean and functional, but small and starkly-decorated with cramped bathrooms. Its full-service restaurant offers buffet and a la carte options, and the 24-hour bar serves light fare. Business travelers are catered to with several meeting rooms and free Wi-Fi, plus the hotel offers laundry services and a concierge. As an alternative, the nearby BLC Design Hotel is more stylish with sleek and modern all-white decor, but it doesn't offer as many amenities.

Ibis Paris Bastille Opera 11th Hotel

Scene

Large, business-oriented hotel with simple, chain-hotel decor

Located near the Bercy business district and offering meeting space, this large hotel hosts many budget-conscious business travelers. But, with the City of Lights’ standing as one of the world’s top tourist destinations, this Ibis chain property sees many tourists who enjoy its central location and value rates. The long and narrow contemporary lobby utilizes the red Ibis logo color as a prominent accent to its white walls and tile floors, with red sofas, vases, drapes, and lights above a trio of kiosk-type reception desks. A modern wood and steel bar-style table with chairs resting on steel pedestals has media plug-ins for work or travel planning. The Ibis Kitchen restaurant at one end of the lobby is brightly advertised in white neon. It offers a lovely outdoor space for urban al fresco dining in warm weather. The busy bar is also bathed in soft red light. Overall, there's nothing fashion-forward about this chain property, but it has a clean, comfortable atmosphere.

Rooms

Clean and functional rooms, but small and starkly decorated

These starkly decorated rooms have bare white and beige walls and light wood floors that match the wooden furniture, which includes headboards, nightstands, and desks that are connected in a modular style. Trim around mirrors and above the brown and red drapes is also the same blonde wood. Simple black wood chairs with metal frames sit under the desks, while tiny closets provide a small amount of storage space. Bedding is bright white, including the duvets.

The rooms are clean and functional, but decidedly small. Standard Rooms are the only option here, and they come with either a double bed or two singles. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, phones, slippers, and small flat-screen TVs, but there are no mini-fridges, tea/coffee facilities, or safes. Bathrooms are cramped and include narrow shower stalls with clear glass doors and hand-held showerheads. Tiny, white ceramic pedestal sinks, wood floors, and yellow painted walls round out the motif. Circular, portal-like windows reinforce the feeling that the petite bathrooms resemble those found in cruise ship cabins. Magnifying mirrors are included, and soap and shampoo come from wall-mounted dispensers. Views from the generally quiet rooms are mostly of roofs or surrounding buildings.
