The Hotel
New Orient, set in a Haussmann-style building near the Parc Monceau, is a 30-room family-owned boutique hotel in the quiet part of the 8th arrondissement, north of the Champs-Elysees. It's about a 20-minute walk north of the Opera National de Paris and the Madeleine. The New Orient Hotel has a homey vibe, from the quiet breakfast room to the bright, light-filled rooms. There's free Wi-Fi throughout, and some rooms have balconies overlooking the street. Rates are reasonable for a mid-range hotel in Paris.
Scene
Cute and quaint, with lovely French flourishes and plenty of light
The New Orient is a delightful place with
plenty of personality. Although renovated, it remains an old-style Parisian hotel, complete with antique touches -- juxtaposed with modern light fixtures that hang over the reception desk. The charming lobby, where a tiny wrought-iron statuette of the Eiffel tower sits on the curved, wooden reception desk, is warm -- albeit tiny. It has a playfully bold floor of black-and-white squares, and big, red comfortable sofas. Next
door, the subdued breakfast nook has round, white-clothed tables and rattan chairs. The hotel stairs can pose a
challenge -- they're steep and circular -- but there is a small elevator. The
clientele is a mix of couples and families.
Location
On a quiet street, an eight-minute walk to the Parc Monceau and lively market on the Rue de Levis
The hotel is located between the
metro stops Villers and Europe (Line 3), and is a 10-minute walk to the Gare St. Lazare train and metro hub, where trains can be caught for Versailles. Montmartre, home of Sacre Coeur, is four or five metro stops away. The Opera National de Paris, with its opulent Beaux-Arts facade, and the Madeleine Church, are within a 20-minute walk of the hotel. The lively daily market on the Rue de Levis is an eight-minute walk from the hotel, as is the lovely Park Monceau.
Rooms
Rooms are bright, with small modern bathrooms that have tiny showers.
Many of the rooms here are on the larger side for Paris, and are spotlessly clean. They are decorated in bright colors, and more light is let in by large windows or French doors that lead to balconies with tables and chairs. Rooms have armoires, with hanging space and
drawers for clothes, small desk units, bedside tables, and large beds. All rooms have wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and safes. Bathrooms include stand-in showers, or shower/tub combos, and have good water pressure -- but they're very small and showers are tiny in most. They also come with hairdryers, toiletries, and makeup mirrors.
Features
Free Wi-Fi, a welcoming lobby with magazines and tourist information, and a cheery breakfast room
Although there is no restaurant or bar,
there is a small, pretty breakfast room where a hot and cold buffet
breakfast is served (not included in the room rate). Guests would probably do better to head out to one of the nearby cafes. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, there's air-conditioning, and
pets are welcome.
