Hotel Paris Opera managed by Melia

The TRYP Paris Opera Hotel belongs to the Melia family of hotels. However, guests expecting Melia standards may be a bit disappointed -- TRYP is the cheaper sister brand and that's reflected in the more affordable rates. The front desk area is smart, functional, and business-like, and this extends through to the rest of the hotel. The gray, black, and white color palette works well in the simple rooms, but the featureless breakfast room feels more like a conference room. The neat decor and choice of room categories means that the hotel attracts a range of guests; mainly couples, with business travelers, families, and a few solo travelers choosing to stay here, too. Spanish travelers might like to know that as a Spanish chain hotel, all employees speak Spanish. 

The TRYP Paris Opera Hotel sits right on Boulevard Montmartre -- a busy road that runs through Paris from west to east. It’s a popular spot with tourists and locals, with lots of restaurants, cafes, and bars nearby. There’s an Irish pub next door. The Louvre is about a 15-minute walk from the hotel, and transport links are excellent. The Grands Boulevard (Rue Montmartre) Metro station is right outside the hotel and there’s a bus station across the road. It will take about 25 minutes to reach Notre Dame, and 35 minutes to reach Montmartre or the Eiffel Tower by metro. Charles de Gaulle Airport is a 45-minute drive, or two metro journeys, away. Expect a train ride of about an hour to Orly Airport.

Rooms are clean and functional, and done in a soft, muted color palette of white, grays, and creams, with classy black accents. Amenities like air-conditioning, large flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, minibars, and kettles come as standard. Beds have crisp white linens and each room also has small desk, completing the fresh and modern look. Bathrooms are a decent size for Paris and have a shower/tub combo, huge mirror, heated towel rail, and hairdryer. The hotel’s 2015 refurbishment has addressed some issues that other hotels in Paris face, although previous guests still comment on niggles with the air-conditioning. Standard Rooms have a queen-size bed. There are single rooms, as well as rooms for families, with have bunk beds, child kits, and baby bottle warmers. Fitness Rooms come with a treadmill, cross trainer, or exercise bike. At the top end, Junior Suites are soundproofed. They’re also more spacious, and include a separate seating area, double sinks, and extra-long king-size beds, ideal for taller guests. Some rooms have a balcony. Keep in mind that Boulevard Montmartre is a busy road and the traffic noise -- as well as noise from the nearby pubs -- is a problem in street-facing rooms. 

For a 71-room hotel, there aren’t many features at this TRYP outpost. There’s a bland breakfast room that opens each morning to offer an extensive hot and cold buffet breakfasts (for a fee), with pastries, cold meats and cheeses, and fruits, as well as a bread station and a hot English breakfast zone. Breakfast can also be served in guests’ rooms. There are no options on-site for lunch or dinner. The only other features of note are a massage room, 24-hour reception, free Wi-Fi, and secure parking available nearby at a fee.
