Bottom Line

The Newpark Resort & Hotel is a large, four pearl property in a pedestrian mall. The resort offers 124 rooms and suites with kitchenettes along with 20 two-bedroom townhouses. While the hotel does not have its own restaurant, there are a number of places to eat within close walking distance, some of which can deliver to rooms. Although the property is a 15-minute drive to the slopes, ski storage and tuneup as well as shuttles to all of the local ski areas makes the Newpark more convenient for skiers than its location would suggest.

Newpark Resort & Hotel

Scene

Sprawling family-friendly property in a pedestrian mall

Because of its large units, the Newpark attracts families and groups of friends on ski vacations. The main building is a modern four-story structure with spiky iron awnings set within a pedestrian mall. There are also a number of smaller, freestanding buildings that house the town houses. The hotel strikes a tone between rustic and contemporary, with faux-stone walls and stone tiles in the common spaces next to slatted wood ceilings and design light fixtures.

Location

In a pedestrian mall, a short drive from Canyons Resort ski area

Newpark Resort is situated off Highway 189, a six-minute drive from the Canyons Resort ski area. It's surrounded by an outdoor shopping center with restaurants and shops all within close walking distance. There's also a wetlands preserve of 1200 acres laced with bike and walking paths right next to the property. The slopes are a six-minute drive (the property runs free shuttles to all three local ski areas), and Salt Lake City Airport is a half-hour drive away.

Rooms

Apartments and townhouses with kitchens or kitchenettes and whirlpool tubs

The Newpark offers Deluxe Rooms as well as Luxury Suites (with up to two bedrooms) and Two Bedroom Townhomes.  All rooms glow with the color of natural wood and leather, but look plain apart from a few Persian rugs and a couple of pieces of contemporary art on the walls. The heavy doors are made of treated pine, as are the sturdy bed frames, and there is a warm, natural leather sleeper sofa in each room. Smaller rooms have kitchenettes, while larger units have full kitchens as well as washers and dryers. All units have iPod alarm clocks, whirlpool tubs, heated floors in the bathrooms, Keurig coffeemakers, minibars, bathrobes, a hairdryer, and safes. Some balcony rooms, many of which have floor-to-ceiling window doors, have small outdoor hot tubs, but some guests might find them too small.

Features

Fitness center, pool with hot tub, saunas, salon, business center, and ski storage and tuneup

Newpark’s particularly lovely heated indoor/outdoor pool reaches to the outside of the building via a moveable, garage-style glass door; guests can swim from the indoor section straight out to the hot tub, which is built into the main pool. There's also a wet and a dry sauna adjacent to the pool, along with a moderate fitness center with a a few cardio and weight machines. There's also a ski storage with free equipment tuneup where guests can leave gear. While the Newpark lacks its own restaurant, there are plenty of places to eat in the surrounding pedestrian mall, some of which can deliver food directly to rooms. Parking and Wi-Fi are free.
