Bottom Line

This 295-room, upper-middle-range hotel is located on Beach Road, across the street from Pattaya’s sandy beach and a five-minute drive to the famed Walking Street. Spacious, modern rooms have minibars, bathrobes, and outdoor spaces -- many looking out toward the sea; rooms in the newer Chic Tower are significantly more sleek. Each tower has its own pool, one more relaxed and one with waterslides, and there are a kids' club and small, bright gym. Dining-wise, there are a cafeteria that serves a decent breakfast spread, an international restaurant, and two bars. Note, however, that some guests have complained of late-night noise from nearby bars. It's worth comparing rates with the Amari Garden Pattaya, which offers a spa and larger kids' club with supervised activities.

Scene

Contemporary, beachfront hotel with older and newer buildings

The Pattaya Discovery Beach Hotel is a three-and-a-half-pearl property split between an older building and the newer Chic Tower. Each tower has its own lobby and pool, and unsurprisingly, the Chic Tower has more modern furnishings. The older building's pool is more kid-friendly and recommended for families, as there are waterslides and a zero-entry point that resembles a beach. The other is more relaxed and the water wraps around columns that act as stilts under the building. The hotel has an excellent central location that attracts a range of leisure travelers, though families should be aware the surrounding bars can be loud at night and aren't the most kid-friendly.

Location

Stellar location across from the beach and near Pattaya’s famous attractions

The Pattaya Discovery Beach Hotel is on Beach Road, across the street from the sand and sea. Guests can walk six minutes to the infamous cabaret club, Alcazar and 11 minutes to the Central Festival shopping mall. There are a plethora of restaurants and bars within easy reach, and the famous Walking Street can be reached in five minutes by car or about 30 minutes walking. The hotel has free parking, or tuk-tuks are easily hailed. U-Tapao Rayong-Pattaya International Airport is 45 minutes by car, while Suvarnabhumi International is 90 minutes and Don Muang International is two hours.

Rooms

Spacious, light-filled rooms with balconies

Discovery Beach Hotel has 295 spacious, air-conditioned rooms split between the older building and the newer Chic Tower. Rooms in the former have a more traditional styling of cherry-wood floors, two-tone wood furniture, linens in beiges and blues, and simple red rectangular pieces of art. Those in the Chic Tower have more modern, sleek furnishings consisting of light-gray wood floors and wall paneling, dark-wood bed frames, white walls, some glass elements, and muted linens. All rooms have balconies, some with lovely sea views. Suites add living room areas.Bathrooms are attractive across room types and they come with bathtubs and separate glass showers, as well as free toiletries and hairdryers. Other standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, minibars, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and safes, as well as bathrobes and slippers.

Features

Two outdoor pools kids, a couple of restaurants and bars, and gym

The hotel has a decent range of facilities, with the main features being the two freeform pools. The one at the Chic Tower has a more relaxed setting, while the other offers slides for little ones. Both have plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. There's no spa, but there's a small fitness center with floor-to-ceiling windows that let in lots of light, modern cardio and strength-training machines, and free weights. A colorful but small kids' club is available. Wi-Fi is free throughout and there are meeting spaces available.   The D’Beach Cafeteria is a contemporary two-story space with floor-to-ceiling windows. It only serves a breakfast buffet, which most guests agree is above average. The D’Beach Restaurant is a seaside outdoor pavilion that serves Thai and European cuisine, including plenty of seafood, on its a la carte menu for lunch and dinner.
