Bottom Line

The 56-room, mid-range Penthouse Hotel has an adult theme geared toward bachelors, couples, and partiers, enhanced by the fact that Walking Street and nightlife are close by. The hotel has two small pools, one with slides, and the Kitten Club is the name of a go-go bar downstairs and signs in the hotel indicate “kittens” and “accredited guests” are free to join regular-paying hotel guests. Rooms are dim and colorful, many outfitted with round jetted bathtubs, mirrors on the ceilings, dance poles, and swings. All rates include breakfast, and the cafe receives positive reviews for its Thai and international dishes. For a more conservative hotel that's also near the action, consider the Beverly Plaza Hotel.

Penthouse Hotel

Scene

Adult play land for guests with open minds

The Penthouse Hotel is an adult-only property, catering to bachelors, partiers, or anyone with an open mind. The design throughout is busy, with a mix of Asian-inspired furnishings and erotic-themed paraphernalia. The lobby has black-tile flooring, wicker seating with red cushions, hanging lanterns, and a plethora of statues. The walls in the hallways, rooms, and other parts of the hotel are reminiscent of orange marshmallow circus peanuts. The decor will not appeal to all guests, but most coming here are more interested in the liberal policies than the interior design. Many guest actually do find it quite sexy -- it’s all a matter of taste. Guests will find plenty of dance poles, swings, and sex toys amidst the hotel. There are two go-go bars downstairs and outside guests are free to accompany hotel guests.

Rooms

Rooms with mirrors on the ceiling, dance poles, and swings

Rooms at the Penthouse Hotel are colorful, dimly lit, and continue the busy decor seen in the common areas. They have tile floors, raised beds, red-satin throw pillows, and stuffed animals on the beds. Also expect mirrors on the ceilings, dance stages, poles, and “exercise” swings. Rooms are showing wear and tear. More traditional amenities include flat-screen TVs (either 42-inch or 50-inch), DVD players, minibars, and electric kettles for coffee and tea. The TV gets some adult channels as well as a feed from the Kitten Club downstairs. The rooms do have stereo systems, as well as mood lighting and safety boxes, both located under the beds. The blackout curtains on the windows are a big hit with partiers.

There are a variety of room choices available, including Deluxe, Premiere, Superior, Party, and Suites. Some rooms have balconies, 24-hour pool access, and whirlpools. Bathrooms have showers that fit multiple persons, some have jetted tubs with TVs in view, and all have hairdryers. Individual guests are able to bring in two free guests; couples can bring in one extra person. After that, there is an additional charge.

Features

Two pools and a restaurant, but no gym

There aren't a ton of on-site features, but the most notable are the two go-go bars downstairs and the two pools. The small indoor pool has lots of metal poles, a slide, waterfall, and a seating arrangement around a counter for having drinks in the pool. The outdoor splash pool is tiny and covered. The hotel has a restaurant, the Cafe Lounge, which receives good ratings on its food and serves a free breakfast spread. There is indoor and outdoor seating with lovely tropical plants. In-room massages can be arranged, too. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
