Bottom Line

The 97-room Amorita Resort is a modern, upscale property with a peaceful clifftop location overlooking Alona Beach. Rooms have a chic, minimalist style, as well as showers, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and minibars. Some, but not all, units add separate bathtubs and furnished balconies. Extensive features consist of two outdoor infinity pools, free non-motorized water sports such as kayaks, free yoga, a spa offering a variety of treatments, and an on-site PADI dive center. Dining options include an all-day restaurant serving Filipino and international fare, and a tapas bar, both of which receive positive reviews. On the downside, there isn't much to do in the immediate area, and the hotel lacks an elevator (ground-floor rooms available). For something a little cheaper but still upscale, consider The Bellevue Resort Bohol.

Amorita Resort

Scene

Stylish, minimalist hotel with scenic cliffside views and ample leisure facilities

Opened in 2007, Amorita Resort is an upscale property with a chic, minimalist style that allows the stunning setting to take center stage. Set on a cliffside, the property overlooks Alona Beach, with pretty ocean views from rooms, pool decks, and bar terraces. Interiors are done in neutral tones, with lots of natural wood elements, modern wicker seating, and stone accents. Lush greenery and lawns are the real decoration here. Elegant rooms, wellness facilities, and two infinity pools make this a great spot for romancing couples, though a good deal of families stay here as well, thanks to kids' activities and shallow sections of pools. However, the atmosphere remains peaceful and sophisticated.

Location

In a peaceful location overlooking Alona Beach, with several eateries nearby

Amorita Resort sits above a pretty stretch of Alona Beach, reachable by a couple dozen or so steps. It's on the southern edge of Bohol’s Panglao Island, a largely tranquil area with not much in terms of activity beyond water sports and diving excursions. However, there are tons of restaurants, bars, and other hotels within a 10-minute walk. Guests are a 20-minute drive from Hinagdanan Cave, a popular spot for tourists to visit in the area. Panglao International Airport is a 10-minute drive away, while Tagbilaran Airport is a 35-minute drive away. Airport transfers can be arranged for a fee.

Rooms

Stylish, modern, and minimalist rooms with showers and kettles, but balconies only in some

Guest rooms at Amorita Resort resemble the hotel's common spaces -- think neutral-tone furnishings, clean lines, and a modern, minimalist aesthetic. Expect beige tiling or slate-gray stone floors, simple light-wood furniture, and pops of teal or light-mauve in throw pillows. Big windows let in lots of light, and it's worth mentioning that not all rooms have furnished balconies or terraces. Some units have stellar ocean views. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, coffee- and tea-making facilities, sitting areas and lightly stocked minibars. Sleek bathrooms come with showers, hairdryers, slippers, and quality free toiletries. Upgraded rooms add separate living spaces, bathtubs, and bathrobes, plus private plunge pools in some.

It's worth mentioning that there's no elevator, but ground-floor rooms are available.

Features

Two infinity pools, open-air restaurant, spa, and lots of freebies

Features at Amorita Resort are extensive and include things for both relaxation and activity. Firstly, guests have direct access down to a pretty stretch of beach with a limited number of loungers. Also there are free-to-use kayaks and stand-up paddleboards, available on a first-come, first-served basis. On the property itself, there are two lovely infinity pools that overlook the ocean and have shallow sections for kids. Plenty of loungers, umbrellas, and a handful of cabanas with daybeds available, and waiter service is provided. A full-service spa offers a variety of treatment options, plus there are free yoga classes on certain days and a sufficiently equipped gym. Guests can also rent bikes for free.

Although many dining options are nearby, guests often choose to eat on-site thanks to the hotel's solid eateries. The all-day Saffron restaurant is an open-air space facing the ocean. It serves both Filipino and international food, and all rates include a substantial breakfast buffet with hot and cold items. There's also a tapas bar on-site called Tomar, which has a good wine menu.

Organized kids' activities, meeting and event spaces, and a PADI diving center round out features here.
