Bottom Line

The 258-room mid-range ibis Phuket Patong is a clean, basic chain hotel conveniently located within walking distance of Patong Beach, as well as Bangla Road and Patong nightlife. The atmosphere and decor are generic, and the hotel could be almost anywhere, but there is a refreshing pool with a sundeck, and the rooms, while small, all have furnished private balconies. This outpost of the Ibis chain should be fine for sightseers who don’t plan to spend much time at the hotel -- it's a good, budget-friendly base for exploring Patong, Phuket, and area attractions. Guests in search of a resort experience and beach holiday may want to look for a hotel off the main Patong drag.

Oyster Hotel Review

ibis Phuket Patong

Scene

Busy and occasionally crowded but clean, relaxed, and functional

The ibis Phuket Patong is a busy hotel that often hosts tour groups and travelers on package deals. The hotel is an outpost of the Ibis chain, and has that generic feel but is clean and airy, with plenty of space in the lobby. There is little to no local character or Thai vibe here, but the courtyard pool is surrounded by shady palm trees. The ibis is relaxed, casual, and functional, with food and drink available around the clock. The bar is in the lobby, and the pool is right outside the picture windows, which add to the bustle of the place.

Location

Surrounded by restaurants and shops, five minutes' walk to Patong Beach

The ibis Phuket Patong is located at the quieter north end of Patong, on a side street off the beach, surrounded by restaurants, massage outposts, and great street shopping. The hustle and town noise doesn’t penetrate the hotel walls, and security is vigilant. Patong Beach is a five minute walk from the ibis, and the nightlife destinations on Bangla Road are within a 10-minute walk. Central Patong is a five- to 10-minute walk. The Phuket Airport is about a 45-minute drive.

Rooms

Small, but clean and functional, with tiny bathrooms and private balconies

Rooms at the ibis Phuket Patong are all basically the same, differing only in the number of beds and the views. City View Rooms get the morning sun and the mountains in the distance; Pool View Rooms have bigger balconies and tend to be quieter. Family Rooms are furnished with fun bunk beds for the kids. Otherwise, the decor is basic and functional, with lots of laminated wood and built-in furniture. Bathrooms are tiny, with narrow (but clean) shower stalls and limited toiletries. The rooms are a good place to sleep, but they're too small to spend a lot of time hanging out in.

Features

Swimming pool and sundeck, buffet breakfast, lobby bar

The ibis Phuket Patong features a small freeform-shaped swimming pool just off the lobby, surrounded by a sundeck, sunbeds, beach umbrellas, and shady palm trees. Massages are available on the premises. The hotel serves a buffet breakfast (but it's pricey, and there are plenty of breakfast spots within walking distance). The ibis’ restaurant, Taste, serves Thai-style tapas in the dining room and on the terrace. The atmosphere is fresh and basic, with paper placemats and pool views. The lobby bar is casual and friendly. The hotel has meeting rooms that are clean, bright, and functional but not atmospheric. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, but the signal is sometimes weak in the guest rooms.
