Bottom Line

Removed from the buzzing center of Patong, the Little Moon Residence is a basic value property about a 15- to 25-minute walk from the beach and main cluster of restaurants, bars, and shops. The 38 rooms are contemporary and clean, albeit simple and somewhat bland, plus two entry-level units lack windows. All, however, come with air-conditioning, TVs, and coffee- and tea-making facilities, and most have furnished balconies. Those on the ground floor may experience noise issues. The lobby lounge also acts as a bar that serves breakfast and free coffee, and it's a popular hangout spot. Unfortunately, there are no other real amenities, aside from free Wi-Fi. For a slightly more central setting, consider the similarly priced Breezotel

The Little Moon Residence

Scene

Contemporary budget hotel in quiet setting

Removed from Patong's action, the Little Moon Residence is popular with budget-minded couples and groups of friends wanting a quiet place to stay. This hotel has some of the cheapest rates in town, yet the property is contemporary and well-maintained. Amenities are limited, however, with the only common area being a colorful open-air lobby that doubles as a small bar and breakfast area. Magenta walls, a white faux-leather couch, and black modern wicker chairs fill the space, as do some Thai paintings and gold Buddha statues for some local charm. Guests may see fellow young travelers eating breakfast or having free coffee, but visitors largely spend their days outside the property exploring the area.

Location

15- to 25-minute walk from the beach and town center

The hotel is located on the outskirts of the city in a quiet neighborhood. The immediate area has some dining options and shops, but travelers will have to walk 15 to 20 minutes to reach most sights. The beach is around 15 minutes away on foot, while the center of town -- packed with restaurants, bars, and shops -- is about 25 minutes away. Phuket International Airport is around 50 minutes away by car, depending on traffic. The hotel offers free scooter parking.

Rooms

Clean, basic rooms with AC and mini-fridges

Rooms are clean and all outfitted in the same simple contemporary style consisting of basic gray-painted furniture and walls, old-looking tile floors, and bed sashes with elephant motifs. Thailand-themed artwork adorns walls. There are four room categories spread across four floors with elevator access: Budget Rooms, Classic Rooms, Superior Rooms, and Family Rooms. All rooms have furnished balconies with city or mountain views, except for the two ground-floor Budget Rooms, which lack windows and can suffer from noise due to the adjacent lobby. Standard amenities consist of air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges with free bottled water, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Superior and Family Rooms swap old tube-style TVs for flat-screens and add hairdryers and safes. White-tiled bathrooms have wet room-style showers, which some guests complain leads to water on the floors. Only bars of soap are provided. Family Rooms have bunk beds to sleep up to four people.

Features

Lobby lounge that serves breakfast and free coffee

Given the budget rates, it's not surprising that the Little Moon Residence has few features. The only common space is the ground-floor lobby lounge that opens to the street with sidewalk seating. Next to the reception desk is a small bar, where guests can order free coffee or other beverages. The space also has a couch, dining sets, and bar stools, and this is where a basic continental breakfast is served. There are no full restaurant, swimming pool, or gym, however. The front desk is managed 24/7 and staff can arrange taxis, scooter and car rentals, in-room massage, and tours. Guests without in-room safes can use the deposit boxes at the lobby.
