The Yorkshire Inn Hotel, Bar & Restaurant

Housed in a white, three-story building with windows across the front, this little place is laid-back and casual, though from a style perspective, the British Isles implied by the name have little to do with anything here. In any case, the unpretentious vibe is evident just upon walking up to the hotel, where guests hang out on the porch and watch the action on the busy street outside. Check-in takes at a long, black reception desk in the tiny lobby -- a functional space meant to move guests on to their rooms, the pool, and the hotel's restaurant. Hallways leading to guest rooms are narrow but well-lighted. Most of the action here is found at the outdoor pool and bar. Overall, the hotel has a homey, low-key vibe that's popular with groups of friends, solo travelers, and couples. Some families and business travelers stay here as well to take advantage of its convenient location and low rates. It's also popular with golfers because of its golf packages. 

This hotel is located on a busy street in the center of Patong, surrounded by many of the town's famous bars and clubs. It's not a quiet part of town, and some noise will be heard in the hotel, though most guests to Patong are in town to party and will feel right at home. The hotel is less than a 10-minute walk from the beach. The action on Bangla Road is just down the block -- just two minutes away on foot -- as is the Jungceylon Shopping Mall. Golfers can reach Phuket Country Club in about 15 minutes by car. The Chaithararam Temple, Phuket Zoo, and Phuket Town are a 30-minute drive from the hotel. Phuket International Airport is about a 45-minute drive from the hotel. 

The hotel's rooms range from small windowless Standard Rooms up to suites that have one to three bedrooms and a separate living area. Decor is basic, with mostly black and white color schemes accented by pops of bright colors such as burgundy, purple, and gold. Things are modern, but lack a definitive style save for some generic abstract art on the walls, and colorful bed runners and throw pillows. Some of the entry-level rooms do have windows, but the view is of the building next door or hotel interiors. All come with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, stocked minibars, safes, free bottled water, and free Wi-Fi. Electric kettles are available on request. Superior Double Deluxe Rooms, the hotel's flagship units, add a balcony. Bathrooms are small and look a bit dated, with older tile and fixtures. Toiletries are supplied. It's worth noting that the central location means that noise from neighboring bars, nightclubs, and revelers can be an issue.

Despite it's value status and small stature, there are a decent number of features here, some of which are surprising for this category in Patong. The restaurant serves breakfast all day as well as classic dishes such as chicken Kiev or fish-and-chips (perhaps a nod to the hotel's name). It's a casual, laid-back place with a bar and flat-screen TVs for showing sporting events. Booths have smaller individual TVs, and food is generally well-liked by previous guests.

The outdoor pool is a cozy spot with a bridge crossing from one side to the other and an awning overhead for shade. Poolside lounge chairs also have umbrellas for shade. A few palm trees and other greenery add a tropical touch, offsetting the surrounding buildings. 

The hotel's fitness center is well-equipped, especially for a hotel of this size. It has large windows that provide natural light. In addition to strength training machines and free weights, it offers treadmills, stationary bikes, stair climbers, a rowing machine, and cross-trainers. There's also a personal trainer on-site, and a sauna and steam room. The founder of the hotel, Paul Gibson, is a former PGA golfer, and the hotel arranges golf outings with discounted greens fees for groups. 

Computers and printers are set up in the business center for guests to use and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
