Hampton Inn Pittsburgh Greentree

Hampton Inn Pittsburgh/Greentree's design and decor doesn't breakthrough any boundaries; it's homey, comfortable vibe, plank laminate floors, and the lobby's help-yourself coffee station are typical of the Hampton Inn brand. Light faux-granite tops the dining room/lounge table circled by upholstered high-back chairs. Artistic black and white prints of Pittsburgh scenes are mounted on the beige walls, while bright orange sofas add a pop of color. Lots of comfortable sitting areas handle the substantial morning crowds without feeling cramped. The hotel’s free shuttle service that stops at several downtown attractions makes it popular with a variety of guests. You can expect to see lots of business travelers on weekdays, and regional residents use the shuttle to attend sporting events on weekends to avoid driving downtown and paying expensive parking rates. 

The Hampton Inn is located in a quiet and secluded neighborhood in Green Tree, atop a small hill just off Penn Lincoln Parkway/Interstate 376 (about three miles southwest from downtown Pittsburgh). This quiet location gets you away from the hustle and bustle, but also leaves you with no dining or shopping facilities within walking distance. The closest restaurants are about one mile away. Nearby businesses include Comcast, Accenture, and Bayer. All of downtown’s major attractions are approximately 10 to 15 minutes by car, or the hotel’s free shuttle service, including Heinz Field, PNC Park, and the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Duquesne University is 10 to15 minutes by car, and the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University are a 15- to 20-minute drive from the hotel. Pittsburgh International Airport is a 20-minute drive. Bus stops are within a few minutes of the hotel, but it typically takes two- to four-times longer on public transportation than driving. 

All 132 of the Hampton Inn's rooms have typical decor and color schemes that are in line with the brand; warm shades of brown, beige, burnt orange, and tan cover the room. Good interior lighting allows for guests to pull the thick curtains closed without darkening the room. Beds are comfortable with bright white duvets, and the matching wood furniture is a pleasing reddish brown. Some rooms like the Double Queen have only an office chair and small ottoman for seating, while some Kings and King Studios offer a little more room with the addition of a sleeper sofa. The tiled bathrooms are small, with corner wood vanities with black granite tops and shower/tub combos. Standard room amenities include mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, 32-inch flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Media plug-ins are located at the desks and nightstands. Exterior noise is not a problem, but some guests have reported hearing their neighbors rather easily through the room-to-room walls. Note that there are both smoking and nonsmoking rooms available.

While the Hampton Inn has an expected look and feel relative to the brand, it's also loaded with features -- several of which are free. You can start your day with the hotel's daily free hot breakfast (guests on the go can grab one of the to-go bags with breakfast sandwiches), free 24-hour tea and coffee in the lobby, free parking, and, most notably to some guests, a free shuttle to/from the hotel that makes several stops within the downtown Pittsburgh area. While there is no full-service restaurant on-site serving lunch and dinner, some area restaurants will deliver to the hotel. Though only seasonal, the hotel has a small rectangular pool, set out on a grassy area equipped with stretched loungers. There's also a contemporary fitness center with cardio, weight training machines, and free weights. The hotel's business center is comprised of two computer stations with Internet access, photocopying services, and free printing. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Meeting space for up to 40 people is available. 

Valet laundry and dry cleaning services are available. The front desk has a guest safe deposit box, while free weekday "USA Today" newspapers and an ATM are located in the lobby. Pets are welcome in select rooms without a surcharge.
