Bottom Line

The upper-mid-range Village at Pocono is a private resort whose white-columned buildings and walkways lined with white fences give the impression of a gated community. The location can't be beat for fans visiting the nearby Pocono Raceway, which also owns the hotel. Rooms here are modern and exceptionally clean, encouraged by a steep security deposit for young adult guests. Tennis courts and a playground can be found in an outdoor sports area. An indoor clubhouse lounge and pool are also available. The property is an ideal base for skiing and NASCAR fans, but there's almost nowhere to eat in the vicinity.

This property was not rated, nor are there ratings anywhere I could find, save Kayak. Rated 2 stars along with Kayak -- note there is no restaurant, bar, or breakfast.

The Village at Pocono

Scene

Quaint and clean gated community

Opened in 2009, this is where all of the hotshot drivers stay during events at the adjacent Pocono Raceway, but you won't find any grease stains here. The property is immaculately clean, with white-on-white and pastel decor inside and out. The heart of the hotel is the chandelier-laden clubhouse lounge, which is a curious mix of upscale designer furniture and framed vintage racing photography lined up in a long corridor. The Village grounds have walking trails with picture-perfect gazebos, arbors, and white picnic tables.

Location

Across from the Pocono Raceway, with almost no dining options

The Village at Pocono is located near I-80, directly across the road from the Pocono Raceway. It's deep in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountain region, known for its camping, hiking, and numerous ski areas, and a car is required to get anywhere, including the area's sparse dining options. Several ski slopes are nearby, including Jack Frost Big Boulder Ski Area, about 15 minutes to the west, and Camelback, about 30 minutes to the east. Mount Airy Casino Resort (which has multiple restaurants) is a 25-minute drive northeast, and getting to The Crossings Premium Outlets requires the same amount of time. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport is 45 minutes northwest by car.

Rooms

Small studios and larger suites with kitchens

Gray tones and dark wood furnishings give the rooms a sharp modern look that's reinforced by how well maintained they are. Rooms come in three types -- Studios and One- or Two-Bedroom Villa suites which have dining areas and fully stocked kitchens. The studios are small and feel like extra bedrooms (with their own bathrooms and coffeemakers) adjacent to larger suites. These adjoining doors, while handy for groups making use of them, can add to the noise level experienced by some travelers. The Suites have sitting areas with plush leather couches and chairs, but kitchen appliances are bottom end. Small and cramped bathrooms are similarly uninspiring with plastic walk-in showers, though the marble floors are spotless.

Features

Outdoor athletic courts, indoor pool, game room, and theater space

The Village offers tennis, basketball, and bocce ball courts next to a playground with slides, swings, and a jungle gym. Most of the indoor features are in the clubhouse, which has a TV lounge, billiards, table tennis, and air hockey. A small theater room has luxurious leather chairs and can be booked for private (Blu-ray) screenings, though there's little to prevent curious passersby from joining in. The indoor pool is housed in the white domed, heated Aquatic Center with a tiny hot tub and several loungers. There are also men and women's locker rooms with attached saunas and a small fitness room with a few cardio machines. Wi-Fi is available for a fee.
