Bottom Line

This motel-style property has a bit more personality than the average chain and provides a solid value for a clean place to stay near Port Aransas Beach. There are Standard Guest Rooms, Economy Rooms, and larger studio-style Suites with kitchenettes or kitchens, so the motel is popular with budget-minded families. The small outdoor pool is a nice spot to relax, with grills and an outdoor shower to wash off after a day at the beach, which is a short drive away. The free continental breakfast includes a fun Texas-shaped waffle-maker along with the usual fare. The rooms are not soundproof and the hardwood can be a drawback depending on the upstairs neighbors.

Oyster Hotel Review

Island Hotel Port Aransas

Scene

Simple motel with a bright, fun, beach-y style

The motel-style property is pretty basic, but it has a bright, sunny decor, including yellow- and melon-colored walls and a front desk painted with a cartoon-like beach mural. The breakfast area and game room are similarly sunny and laid-back. While the pool area is no-frills, it is clean and surrounded by lounges and shady palm umbrellas that give the space a slight tropical vibe.

A short drive to town and beaches

The hotel sits off a two-lane highway that leads into town, which is within a five-minute drive. The sandy beach is also a short drive away, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby, as well as attractions that include Dolphin Dock for dolphin-watching trips and deep sea fishing. Corpus Christi International Airport is 40 minutes away.

Rooms

Large rooms have light, airy decor but little soundproofing

The hotel has 45 standard guest rooms with two queen beds, mini-fridges, and microwaves, and four studio-style suites, each with a king and queen beds, a sofa, and a full kitchen with utensils. There are also a few rooms with kitchenettes, and Economy Rooms have just one queen bed. The rooms are large with simple beach-y decor, which includes white furniture, mint-green throws, and crafty painted starfish on the walls above the beds.  All rooms have coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, and hairdryers. Irons and ironing boards are available upon request. The hardwood floors magnify the sound of neighbors upstairs, and the walls provide little insulation from noise, so it’s not ideal for light sleepers.
