Bottom Line

As its name implies, this 559-room upscale hotel, with its 27 halls and meeting rooms, caters to congresses, business conferences, and other big events. About 15 minutes from the historic center via public transportation, the Clarion Congress also serves tourists. Along with its extensive conference facilities, the hotel has three restaurants -- ranging from the fine-dining Benada to the casual Pizza and Cafe Restaurant -- two bars, and a seventh-floor club lounge for the exclusive use of guests staying in the Executive Rooms and Suites. It also has an extensive fitness center and wellness zone with counter-current whirlpools and saunas, and it's connected to the Galerie Fenix shopping mall. The Clarion Congress packs in a lot for its price range, but travelers looking for a more central location could try the Mamaison Riverside Hotel Prague, though rates can be higher.

Clarion Congress Hotel Prague

Scene

A modern corporate hotel catering to business travelers

The atmosphere here is decidedly corporate. The exterior even looks like an office building, with walls of glass and a nondescript marble entrance with escalators leading up to the vast lobby. Small clusters of colorful seating break up the expanse of blank floor, while the wooden slats fronting the reception desk add warmth, but it can be hard to shake the workplace -- or airport -- vibe. The extensive conference areas have skylights that brighten up the convention floor. The brasserie-style Veduta Restaurant personalizes the look a bit with black-and-white photographs of Prague along the walls of the large space. The busy black-white-and-gray patterned floor of the more formal Benada Restaurant adds some style. Primarily a business hotel, the Clarion Congress can feel a bit dead and empty on weekends when events aren't going on, but that can mean fewer crowds in the fitness and wellness zone areas, and restaurants.
