Bottom Line

The three-and-a-half-pearl Hotel U Zeleneho hroznu (Hotel at the Green Grape) is a lovely, eight-room property housed in a 17th-century building. The quiet boutique hotel is located in Lesser Town, and features original weathered ceiling beams and an authentic Gothic wine cellar where tastings are hosted. Guest rooms are individually decorated -- most with beautiful antiques -- and come equipped with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and coffeemakers, but ground-floor rooms aren’t air conditioned. Free breakfast, concierge services, free Wi-Fi, and on-site parking (for a fee) are highlights, but there's no elevator to access the top two floors. Travelers looking for a larger boutique property with similar amenities can compare rates with Boutique Hotel Constans.

Hotel U Zeleneho Hroznu

Scene

A historic boutique hotel with a charming setting for couples and leisure travelers

This charming boutique hotel is set on a quiet cobblestone street and has an intimate atmosphere. The 17th- century salmon-colored building is elegant, with white trim, a stately, wrought iron lantern hanging next to the door, and flowers in planters perched on ground-floor windowsills. Inside, the rustic lobby has Renaissance vaulted ceilings with heavy wood beams and Baroque details, lovely antiques, and a wine barrel-like reception desk.

The quaint breakfast room is through an arched doorway, with tables close enough together to foster conversations among guests. In summer, breakfast can be taken to the inner courtyard, which has a small, gurgling fountain. The hotel mainly draws couples, but some families stay here, too, as there are larger rooms on the upper floor.

Rooms

Antique-filled enclaves with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and coffeemakers, but not all rooms have AC

Guest rooms at Hotel U Zeleneho hroznu are named after famous Czech writers, artists, and musicians, with period decor that ranges from Renaissance to Art Nouveau. Rooms are simply dressed and look fresh, and there are hardwood floors, white bedspreads, and handsome armoires. The three Superior Rooms/Suites that we saw were adorned with beautiful antiques, including some pieces with marble tops. Decorative elements such as wall tapestries, bookcases with vintage instruments, and old, wind-up phonographs add a sense of thoughtfulness and attention to detail. Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, minibars, coffeemakers, slippers, safes, and free Wi-Fi, but only rooms on the top two floors have air conditioning.

Tiling in bathrooms makes them look a bit dated, but they're bright and tidy, and have heated towel racks, attractive square sinks with modern fixtures, and roomy walk-in showers with frosted glass doors. All are equipped with hairdryers, toiletries, and extendable mirrors.

Rooms overlook the inner courtyard or surrounding buildings, and they're relatively quiet, although some past guests on lower floors have said that there's noise from above, mostly due to the wood floors.
