Hotel Tramonto d'Oro

Hotel Tramonto d’Oro is a three-and-a-half-pearl boutique hotel located on the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast. Deluxe and Standard Rooms are clean, though their decor is dated. Higher category rooms have had a modern makeover, and top-of-the-line Mediterranean Rooms include free minibars, whirlpool tubs, and private terraces with sea views. The hotel has a seasonal rooftop pool with loungers, a popular gourmet restaurant, and a small wellness center with a spa, state-of-the-art gym, Turkish bath, and sauna. Its middle-of-the-road price point makes it an ideal compromise on substance, style, location, and price, though travelers might also want to check out the nearby Grand Hotel Tritone, which has a private beach area -- but rates are more expensive.

Hotel Margherita
Via Umberto I, 70

The 28-room, mid-range Hotel Margherita is a lovely property ideally situated for exploring the Amalfi Coast. Its gorgeous Praiano setting is midway between Amalfi and Positano, and there's a bus stop close by. Guests can reach local attractions via a free shuttle, and boats and cars can be rented from the hotel. Rooms are elegant, with a bit of throwback charm that may look dated to some eyes, and include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and minibars. Some have incredible sea views. The open-air restaurant also takes in those views, as do the pool and small fitness area. Travelers might want to also check out the Hotel Locanda Costa Diva, which has lower rates, but no pool and more obviously dated rooms.
