Bottom Line

Set in a calm pocket of Aguadilla, a five-minute walk from the beach, the mid-range Punta Borinquen is a simple, small-scale resort reminiscent of a retro motel, with a pleasant outdoor pool and a relaxed vibe. Extensive renovations in 2017 gave the property a fresh, modern look that fits its coastal setting, as do its breezy open-air common areas. Fully renovated with simple, contemporary decor, its 53 rooms and suites are spotless, comfortable, and quiet, and feature good amenities such as free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and cable TV. Mini-fridges and coffeemakers are only available in suites, though. Waves serves good food and drinks at affordable prices in an outdoor space by the pool, and there is plenty of free parking on-site. This property suits travelers seeking a straightforward Aguadilla base and anyone requiring accommodation close to the airport. Those after more on-site features could try Courtyard by Marriott Aguadilla up the road, but it’s much more crowded.

Punta Borinquen Resort

What’s the Scene Like at Punta Borinquen Resort?

Intimately sized motel-style property with stylish common areas and a laid-back vibe.

Formerly a military air base, the Punta Borinquen is a straightforward and contemporary resort located in a calm pocket of Aguadilla, within a short stroll of its much larger, more bustling sister property, Courtyard by Marriott Aguadilla. Its two three-story wings containing guest rooms are divided by the lobby, restaurant, and pool area. Though the exterior is plain and rather dated, the property feels fresh and contemporary thanks to a 2017-18 overhaul. Decor is simple but cute throughout, featuring timber furniture and taupe hues offset with crisp white walls and midcentury-inspired furniture. The layout is fairly intimate, but the feel is very much alfresco -- both the restaurant and lobby occupy breezy open-air spaces with pool views. Just like the Marriott, families frequently stay here, but the vibe at this property is much more laid-back, and prices are right for location and amenities.

What are Rooms Like at Punta Borinquen Resort?

Simple rooms have fresh, coastal-inspired decor and free Wi-Fi, plus fridges in upgraded units.

The fresh, simple style of common areas continues into the hotel’s 53 rooms, all of which underwent a renovation in 2017-18. Decorated in coastal blues, soft driftwood grays, and crisp whites, the color palette fits the location, which is known for its lovely surfing beaches. Tiled floors and big windows keep spaces cool, and all rooms come with good (if sometimes loud) air-conditioning units.
