Auberge Saint-Pierre

Scene

19th-century boutique hotel with contemporary decor and original accents

Guests looking to get out of the chain hotel rut will be happy to find Le Saint-Pierre Auberge, situated along one of Old Quebec's lovely cobblestone streets. The hotel is housed in what was once the Quebec Fire Insurance Company and features a beautifully maintained 19th-century facade. Guest rooms offer a stylish mix of modern decor and original details -- the exposed brick and stone walls are standouts. Comparatively, parts of the lobby feel slightly dated, with beige tiled floors, light-wood wainscoting, and striped wallpaper. But the small lounge area pairs high ceilings painted in striking magenta with beautiful stained-glass lamps and a cozy, tall brick fireplace. Most of the extra property features are housed at the sister hotel next door, making this a more intimate spot, popular among tourists and cruise-goers, especially couples.

The Le Saint-Pierre Auberge aptly sits right along the narrow Rue Saint-Pierre in the heart of historic Old Quebec, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Boutiques, restaurants, and art galleries dot the streets, and plenty of attractions are walkable in about five minutes or less, including the Museum Place Royale, the Church of Notre-Dame-des-Victoires, and the Old Quebec Funicular. Guest rooms are small but distinct and charming, with a trendy mix of modern decor and historic accents. Hardwood floors, exposed brick or stone accent walls, and original steam radiators are stylishly paired with fresh, white walls, white-painted wood furniture, and black-and-white framed photographs. Beds are comfy, with down comforters, and there are attractive, simple glass bedside lamps.

Rooms have individual AC units and modern amenities that include wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, clocks with USB ports and bluetooth capability, mini-fridges, and Keurig coffeemakers.
