The four-pearl Artique Surfers Paradise houses 176 air-conditioned self-catering one- to three-bedroom modern apartments with fully equipped kitchens that include ovens, dishwashers, and plenty of cookware. This giant high-rise is within walking distance of the beach and Surfer’s Paradise shopping center, with its many shops and restaurants, and there's a tram stop nearby. All units have balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows, and some have wraparound corner windows and ocean views. Hotel facilities include a heated outdoor pool and barbecue area, a modest fitness center and spa with a sauna and steam room, a theater room for watching movies, and a virtual golf area open to golf club members. Be aware that Wi-Fi comes with a fee, and when we visited, some of the rooms had unpleasant drain odors.
Scene
Gigantic cement high rise that looks like a residential tower
Set up like a luxury apartment building with mailboxes, this modern concrete-and-glass high rise overlooks the coastline. The starkly modern lobby has suede benches, which sit on bold black-and-gold area rugs. There are plenty of tourist brochures on display, and a wall of white circles lends a playful note to the minimalist surroundings. Other common areas include an outdoor pool area, with several electric barbecues available for guests' use. Given the size of the units and fully equipped kitchens, Artique Surfers draws mainly families and couples here for long stays, although solo travelers are not unheard of here.
Location
A block from beach, and within walking distance of tram
Artique Surfers Paradise sits on a large road that runs parallel to the ocean, surrounded by other high rises. The shops, restaurants, and popular walkway along Surfer’s Paradise Beach are within a 20-minute walk, or a 15-minute ride via the tram that stops near the hotel's entrance. The beachfront markets, including Paradise Shopping Center, are about a seven-minute walk.
Rooms
Floor-to-ceiling windows, velour couches, modern furniture
These ultra modern apartments of one to three bedrooms feature balconies, chrome-and-white wood laminate furniture and velour couches, a few artfully placed modern prints on the wall, and floor-to-ceiling windows, some offering fantastic ocean views. All units come with fully equipped kitchens, including ovens, dishwashers, full refrigerators, microwaves, plenty of cookware, and seating areas. Units also have washer/dryers, flat-screen TVs, and DVD players. White-and-gray clean-lined bathrooms have shower/tub combos with rain showerheads, large mirrors, hairdryers, and plenty of storage cabinets beneath the sinks.
