Embracing all of the reliable signatures of the brand, this Comfort Suites outpost has a welcoming vibe, with its vaulted lobby ceiling, curved front desk, and flat-screen TV mounted over a fireplace. Modern art adorns the walls and there's plenty of homey seating arrangements for any guests looking to kill a little bit of time before heading out to see the area's sights (or head to an on-site business function). Free cookies are always a welcome perk. The breakfast room is large, with bright pendant lights above the buffet, and plenty of four-seat square and round tables. For a value hotel, there are extra places for guests to hang out -- including an indoor pool and a fitness room -- and visitors include families, couples, and business guests drawn by the hotel's extensive conference facilities. 

The hotel sits amid a group of other hotels and commercial buildings just off I-90. There’s an upscale steak house next door, and various fast-food outlets nearby. WaTiki Indoor Waterpark Resort, a family friendly entertainment option, is just a five-minute down the road from the hotel. Otherwise this feels like suburbia, and anything of interest requires a car ride to reach. Downtown Rapid City -- which has plenty of quaint cafes, shops, and restaurants -- is a 10-minute drive from the hotel, as is the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. It’s a 40-minute drive to Mount Rushmore and the Black Hills, and 20 minutes to Bear Country USA wildlife park. Badlands and Wind Cave National Parks are an hour away as well. Rapid City Regional Airport is a 15-minute drive from the hotel. 

There are 92 large and modern suites at this hotel, and while there's no denying the chain-like style, the homey look is sharp and fresh, with attractive prints in soft furnishings like curtains plus dark patterned carpets and dark wood-veneer furniture. Separate sitting areas have soft-colored couches, and wooden coffee tables. Some suites have whirlpool tubs off the bedrooms, and Family Suites have sofa beds. Off-white walls are hung with nature and landscape photography, and beds are made with white linens and red bed runners for a pop of color. Bathrooms have long vanities with plenty of room for storing toiletries, and curtained shower/tub combos with granite walls. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, irons and ironing boards and safes.

Like most Comfort Suites locations, this hotel offers a good amount of on-site facilities for its category. The hotel’s free buffet breakfast includes hot options like eggs and waffles, along with cereal, yogurt, and fresh fruit. There’s a small, rectangular indoor heated pool, and a separate hot tub. The gym has a small selection of cardio and weight machines, as well as towels, and there are coin-operated laundry machines on-site. A business center has two desktop computers and printers. More than 5,000 square feet of meeting space includes a ballroom and a boardroom, plus a shop selling snacks and sundries. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Parking is also free and the lot is large enough to handle buses and RVs.
