Reykjavik4you Apartments Hotel

Family-run and modest in size, the Reykjavik4you Apartments Hotel is a plain building on a quiet street, dotted with a few cafes and bars. The main location consists of two white and dark-gray buildings that sit opposite each other and across from the hotel's own parking lot, with the smaller building housing a cozy lobby. A pair of unfinished-wood chairs and small topiaries flank a narrow door that serves as the unassuming entrance to the property. Inside, the style is fun and bohemian. Big, tufted-leather armchairs and a couch sit beside a cosmetic fireplace, with several bookshelves packed into the corners. Artfully scuffed dark-wood floors, clean white walls decorated with maps, and a bright violet rug create a homey vibe. Guests are mostly families and couples, and other than at check-in -- completed at a pair of antique wooden desks with red velvet chairs in the lobby -- they may not cross paths much, as the apartment-style property lacks common areas. Note that the Deluxe Apartments are at an off-site location on Laugavegur Street.

Reykjavik4you Apartments Hotel's main buildings are down the street from the city's major shopping thoroughfare, Laugavegur Street, but some units are at a second location several blocks away (at Laugavegur 85). Guests can walk to plenty of downtown sights from the hotel, along with trendy cafes and bars. The Hallgrimskirkja church is a seven-minute walk from the hotel, the National Museum of Iceland is 13 minutes away, and the famous Sun Voyager Sculpture on the waterfront is 17 minutes away on foot. The Harpa Reykjavik Concert Hall takes 10 minutes to reach on foot -- it's a stunning building with harbor views that puts on live events throughout the year. Iceland's famous Blue Lagoon is a 45-minute drive outside of Reykjavik, while Landmannalaugar's highlands are nearly three hours away by road. Keflavik International Airport is a 50-minute drive from the hotel.

Each of the 20 apartments has a bright, modern decor with full kitchens. They're large, ranging in size from Studios to huge One- and Two-Bedroom apartments -- the smallest Studio is 430 square feet, dwarfing regular hotel rooms in Reykjavik. Most also have small balconies. Color palettes and decor vary, but wood floors and contemporary Scandinavian furnishings are common features. Wall art is colorful and bohemian, while sleek mod furniture sits alongside quirky lamps and accents like artfully bundled sticks in some rooms. The kitchens are equipped with modern appliances including microwaves, coffeemakers, tea kettles, refrigerators, dishwashers, toasters, and ovens with electric stovetops. Free Wi-Fi is standard, along with flat-screen TVs, DVD players, iPod docks, safes, and ironing facilities. Bathrooms in standard units have heated towel racks and walk-in showers, plus toiletries and hairdryers. The two Deluxe Two-Bedroom Apartments add whirlpool tubs, along with large living rooms with sofa beds -- keep in mind they are in a separate location. 

Apart from the small lobby lounge, and free parking lot, the hotel has no facilities. Each apartment comes with a free mobile phone (with an Icelandic SIM card) for guest use. Day tours and car-rental services can be arranged with the 24-hour reception desk, with pick-ups and drop-offs in the hotel's parking lot. Airport shuttle service can also be arranged through the hotel for a fee.
