Ginger Hotel

Ginger Hotel opened in 2016 as a response to the tourism boom in Tulum. This family-owned and operated boutique is nestled in a residential area of town and gives guests the convenience of being close to the hot spots of the main drag. A small entrance right off the street brings guests to the open-air reception desk and interior courtyard with a small pool. Murals done by local artists decorate the walls. To the left is the hotel's Ginger Restaurant, a popular spot within town for breakfast and lunch. The hotel's standard Double and Double Plus rooms are good for couples, while the King rooms are popular with families. 

Ginger Hotel has a convenient location in Tulum pueblo, within walking distance of the main drag. The hubbub of restaurants and bars are just a three-minute bike ride or five-minute walk away. Both the beachfront hotel zone and Tulum ruins can be reached in 12 minutes by bike or eight minutes by car. Akumal, Playa del Carmen, and Cancun Airport are all approximately 30 minutes, 50 minutes, and 90 minutes north, respectively. 

All 13 guest rooms are contemporary and nicely decorated, though touches like chandelier light fixtures in the bathrooms and hand-painted murals depicting different aspects of Mexican culture help to give them personality. Expect reclaimed wood-style tile floors, white walls, shabby-chic wood furniture, and modern chairs. Queen-size beds, air-conditioning, Blu-ray players, flat-screen TVs with no channels, and ceiling fans are standard. Double Plus Rooms add a pullout sofa and table and chairs set. King Rooms go further with a king-size bed, double-sized bathroom with a whirlpool tub, and a bigger closet. Small minibars stocked with free Mexican candies, soft drinks, and beer are a big plus, and all rooms have recycled bottles filled with purified water that gets refreshed daily. Bathrooms feature walk-in showers with contemporary showerheads and eco-friendly pump toiletries. 

Features focus mostly on tourists. The small restaurant serves up breakfast and lunch, but isn't open for dinner. Guests order their free breakfast off the menu, and have a choice of coffee, juices, waffles, pancakes, chilaquiles, and yogurt with granola. The lunch menu features international and Mexican dishes, and there's a chic bar for cocktails. A courtyard picnic table and contemporary dining space with soft music and a collection of black tables and chairs round out the seating options. It’s also common to find guests checking email or reading a book here during the day. 

Ginger guests can access Coco Tulum’s beach club for free, though there’s a minimum spend requirement for the day and transportation is not provided. It's not an entirely good deal, since all of the beach clubs have the same offer. For folks who don’t want to make the trek to the beach, there’s a tiny pool with a shallow kids' area and two Acapulco chairs on the deck. Free beach and pool towels are available at reception. 

Reception is also where guests can request room essentials like hairdryers and irons, as well as rent bikes, books, or Blu-ray discs. Guests can expect free Wi-Fi, laundry service (fee), and a handful of free parking spots on a first-come, first-served basis. Reception closes before midnight, and there is a security guard in place overnight.
