Bottom Line

The Now Jade Riviera Cancun is a 550-room megaresort that manages to be both family-friendly and romantic. The hotel's location in low-key Puerto Morelos helps, while its chic spa and unique decor distinguish the resort from its competitors in nearby Cancun. All units are suites with ample space (especially the bathrooms), and the use of a vibrant color palette helps avoid the dreaded "generic hotel" vibe. The private Jacuzzi tubs are also a nice touch, with many located on outdoor balconies. The biggest drawback is the beach, which is smaller and less impressive than many others in the area.

Oyster Hotel Review

Now Jade Riviera Cancun

Location

Directly on the beach in Puerto Morelos

As far as location goes, Now Jade Riviera Cancun has the best of both worlds. It's relatively secluded, but still only a very short drive away from downtown Puerto Morelos. The restaurants, shopping, and nightlife here are widely considered to be more authentic and less wild than that of Cancun to the north.

Puerto Morelos is a former fishing village located halfway between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. The area serves as a perfect compromise for anyone looking for Cancun's stunning beaches without the hordes of tourists. The impressive reefs just offshore attract a fair share of divers, and many come to take a dip in the inland cenotes (massive sinkholes filled with crystal clear groundwater). The laidback vibe of the area makes it great for spending a day lounging or exploring without the fear of having to deal with packs of rowdy spring breakers.

Riviera Maya is the section of Caribbean coastline stretching between Cancun in the north and Tulum in the south. The beaches and the nightlife are the main draws here, and though plenty of visitors never leave their mega-resort, some of Mexico's best Mayan ruins are a short drive away.

  • 30-minute drive from Cancun International Airport
  • 2-minute drive to Puerto Morelos
  • 36-minute drive to Playa del Carmen
  • 40-minute drive to downtown Cancun
  • 1-hour-12-minute drive to the Mayan ruins at Tulum
