Bottom Line

For those looking for a modern hotel and an extended or self-sufficient stay within walking distance of Rome's major attractions, the three-pearl Mood Suites Tritone is a good option. There are only eight spacious suites. Each is outfitted with a kettle, flat-screen TV, and air-conditioning. Some have kitchenettes and balconies, and all have a modern design. Beyond the rooms, there’s little in the way to do here. There isn't a restaurant, bar, gym, or main breakfast room. If breakfast is included in the room rate, breakfast items are stocked in the rooms for guests to prepare themselves. Travelers can get more bang for their buck at The Britannia Hotel, which offers free breakfast, rooms with free minibars, and a bar.

Mood Suites Tritone

Scene

Self-sufficient style hotel with a modern design and no public spaces

Mood Suites Tritone sits in a charming building from the early 1900s. It looks like many of the other buildings on the block, but once inside, guests are welcomed by a lovely quad with stone floors that form a star design, walls that are a pinkish-orange hue, and some potted plants that complement iron railings along balconies and windows. Inside the lobby, the look is smart and business-like with a small desk and clear plastic chairs in the corner, and an espresso machine. There are a few armchairs and a set of stairs (no elevator available) that lead to upper floors. Though it’s a generally quiet hotel, this historic property does have thin walls and bothersome noise can be heard in the evenings or early morning. Most guests are families and couples who don’t mind the lack of an atmosphere, public spaces, or amenities and just prefer enough space and self-sufficient kitchenettes to use during their trip to Rome.

Location

Central location makes it easy to reach attractions and dining options on foot

One of the highlights of the hotel is its location. It takes nine minutes on foot to reach the Spanish Steps, and it's just eight minutes to the Trevi Fountain. The Pantheon is a 15-minute walk away and the Piazza Navona is a 19-minute walk. Fit travelers can reach the Colosseum in 25 minutes on foot. The surrounding streets are filled with restaurants and cafes. The Vatican is too far away to manage on foot, but there’s a bus stop and a metro stop just around the corner from Mood Suites Tritone. It takes an hour by car to reach the Leonardo da Vinci International Airport.

Rooms

Sophisticated rooms with flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and kettles; some have kitchenettes

Rooms at the Mood Suites Tritone are composed of a simple and sophisticated decor with neutral tones, wooden floors, trendy headboards, and streamlined furniture. The walls have some texture on the bottom portion, but beyond that, there are really no decorative elements or art pieces. The suites are spacious and include amenities such as air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, safes, free Wi-Fi, and kettles. Some rooms are equipped with small kitchenettes that include mini-fridges, sinks, and two-burner stoves. Upper-level rooms have espresso makers and patios or balconies. The largest suites sleep six people. Bathrooms are clean and modern. They come with small glass showers, Etro toiletries, hairdryers, and bidets. There have been complaints about small maintenance issues with the air-conditioning and thin walls that foster bothersome noise. The rooms are cleaned daily.

Features

Breakfast items for preparation by guests in rooms and free Wi-Fi

Mood Suites Tritone offers very few features. There’s no fitness center, gym, restaurant, or bar on-site. Some rooms include breakfast in the prices, but rather than delivering a prepared meal to guests’ doors in the morning, breakfast items are stocked in the kitchenettes in advance so that guests can cook their own breakfast. The only other amenities are free Wi-Fi and a 24-hour reception desk.
