Bottom Line

Less than a 10-minute walk from Trevi Fountain, the Nerva Boutique Hotel is a mid-range option that's well-located for exploring Rome's tourist sights. The modern hotel has 19 stylish rooms with quaint accents plus minibars, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Some rooms have terraces. A continental breakfast with handmade items is available, but not included, and the hotel serves an afternoon tea with free snacks. The hotel offers a solid value for the location, but travelers who don't mind spending more may also check out Hotel Indigo Rome, an upscale hotel with plenty of style plus a spa and small fitness room near the Tiber River.

Nerva Boutique Hotel

Scene

Boutique hotel with plenty of charm and style

Off of a cobblestone street and through the arched glass entry door of Nerva Boutique Hotel, guests will find a small, beautiful lobby with wooden floors and classical architecture elements. It's a fitting welcome to what is a stylish and charming small hotel that's flush with quaint details. Abstract paintings add a little color to the soft white space, and art books and plants sparingly line the walls. The hotel has a cozy breakfast room with marble tables and gray chairs. Floral centerpieces are a charming touch. With a bar in the corner, the room also serves as a space to enjoy afternoon tea or a cocktail in the evening. Due to its small size, though, most guests don't spend much time hanging out here -- it's a fine place to rest between sightseeing, and the majority of those who stay here are couples and a few families on vacation. Mostly reasonable rates draw a number of solo travelers too.

Location

In Rome's historical center, equidistant from Trevi Fountain and Colosseum

For a spot-on location that's within walking distance to most of Rome's most popular historic sights, it's hard to do better than this hotel. It sits in the city center, on a cobblestone street, across from the Imperial Forums. It’s less than a 10-minute walk to the Colosseum, and just over 10 minutes to the Trevi Fountain on foot. Plenty of shops, restaurants, and cafes are in the area, and it will take around 20 minutes to walk to Termini Station or the Spanish Steps. The nearest metro station is Colosseo, which connects to other lines throughout the city. Expect a 40-minute metro trip to reach Vatican City, though the same journey can be done by car in 15 minutes. Both Ciampino Airport and Leonardo da Vinci Airport are within a 40-minute drive depending on traffic. Guests should note parking around the hotel can be a challenge.

Rooms

Stylish, modern rooms with minibars and free Wi-Fi

Rooms at Nerva Boutique Hotel are modern and stylish, with wooden floors and quaint accents that include colorful throw pillows and quirky ceiling lights. The houndstooth upholstered headboards are a particularly nice touch and give the rooms a playful, classy look. Higher category rooms are even more sharp, with elements like black accent walls, eye-catching abstract wall art, and extra seating. Furniture is a blend of sleek modern pieces and vintage details, like gilded and mirrored nightstands in the Deluxe Room we visited. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms vary in style, but guests should expect to see dark marble floors and even striking white marble sinks in some higher-category bookings. Some have smaller showers than others, and toiletry kits are provided in all rooms. There’s a Premium Suite available with two bathrooms, a living room, and a charming outdoor patio furnished with a couch and chairs. There’s also a two-level Master Suite available with a whirlpool tub.

Continental breakfast with homemade items, free afternoon tea, and bar

True to its boutique ethos, there's not a whole lot on offer here, but what the hotel does, it does well. A continental breakfast is served that earns good reviews and includes items like pastries, fruit, meats, eggs, and cheese. The hotel provides honey and jams from local suppliers to accompany the homemade cakes and cornetto that are served. Unfortunately, breakfast is not included with all room rates. Afternoon tea with free snacks is also offered at the hotel, and there’s a bar where guests can enjoy a drink. Laundry service is available for a fee, and hotel transfers can be arranged for a fee. Small pets are allowed for free.
