Best St. Croix Luxury Resorts

Though it is the largest of the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Croix only has a handful of hotels. These are the most luxurious places to stay on the island.

The Buccaneer St Croix

Christiansted, St. Croix

One of St. Croix's most attractive large-scale resorts, the Buccaneer is a historic property that's both luxurious and family-friendly. The 138 rooms are classy (many have stunning wood ceilings) and luxuriously large, and boast gorgeous views of the ocean or the impeccably manicured grounds from private balconies or terraces. Flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, air-conditioning, and coffeemakers are standard to every room. The Buccaneer has a spa, two pools, and three sandy beaches, including the popular Mermaid Beach, which draws day visitors and has its own small restaurant. Kayaks and snorkel gear are free to use, and the hotel offers free scuba-diving lessons. There's a 24-hour on-site fitness center, as well as four tennis courts and a two-mile jogging course curving around the beautiful grounds. A generous free breakfast is served at The Terrace, which also upscale Caribbean-inflected cuisine for dinner (when reservations are required).

Renaissance St. Croix Carambola Beach Resort & Spa

St. Croix, Caribbean

The 151-room, four-pearl Renaissance St. Croix Carambola Beach Resort & Spa is a secluded gem on the northern coast of St. Croix. With a wide, private beach that doesn’t ever feel crowded, landscaped tropical grounds, a large swimming pool, and breezy, modern rooms with classic Caribbean touches, this is an upscale getaway from the crowds in other parts of the island. The remoteness does have its downsides: Anyone wanting an alternative from the hotel’s pricey on-site restaurant will have to drive 35 minutes to reach downtown Christiansted, or trek to one of the few nearby options by car. Those looking for a livelier scene should consider the equally chic Buccaneer Hotel, which is a short drive from Christiansted's waterfront shops and restaurants. This property was impacted by Hurricane Maria in September 2017 and is currently closed. We will update our review as soon as we have more information.
