Bottom Line

The 79-room, mid-range Hampton Inn St. Simons Island is conveniently located in the center of the island, just off the main highway. It's surrounded by plenty of dining choices for all budgets, and is within easy reach of all the major historic sites. The inn is a chain outpost with a roadside hotel atmosphere that offers no pleasant or unpleasant surprises. Rooms are spacious and clean, and the pool, while not huge, is larger than those found at many other chain hotels.

Hampton Inn St. Simons Island

Scene

Relaxed vibe, outdoor pool with sun lounges, whirlpool, and DIY waffles at breakfast

The Hampton Inn St. Simons Island is a chain hotel with a few decorative local touches that give a nod to its Georgia island location. From the outside, the property looks like every other Hampton Inn, everywhere, but the lobby is pleasantly cluttered with plants, flowers, bamboo framed mirrors, and tropical prints. The turquoise walls and accents reflect the tropical landscape outside, and the woven ceiling fans gently stir the air. The morning breakfast buffet is served in a generic room off the lobby, with plain linoleum floors. There is a waffle iron for self-serve waffle-making. The swimming pool is eight feet deep in places, and large enough for some serious swimming. There are simple lounge chairs, beach umbrellas, and tables and chairs on the deck. The outdoor whirlpool is small, surrounded by a plain stucco wall, but is nonetheless relaxing. This hotel makes for a nice, relaxed, unfussy  base of operations for travelers on a budget who want to explore the island.

Rooms

Spacious and clean, with portable lap desks, cable TV, and free Wi-Fi

Rooms at the Hampton Inn St. Simons Island are spacious and clean, furnished with king or queen beds with dark-wood headboards, and the added bonus of portable lap desks for reading or working in bed. The rough stucco ceilings and busy wall-to-wall carpeting are generic, typical chain hotel trappings, but the plantation shutters add island atmosphere, and help travelers get a good night’s sleep. Views are unexceptional, and mostly include the parking lot and an occasional palm tree. Bathrooms are modern, and include toiletries and plentiful, plush towels. Connecting rooms and cribs are available on request.
