Best Western Plus Lackland Hotel & Suites

This hotel’s proximity to Lackland Air Force Base makes the Best Western Plus Atrea Hotel & Suites a popular choice for military families and friends, especially during graduation events. The homey, inviting lobby has several seating areas, including a cluster of armchairs and sofas and two flat-screen TVs around a brick-framed fireplace. The high ceilings and light-beige decor give the lobby a bright and airy vibe, and tropical plants enhance the casual ambience, as does the cozy seven-stool, black-granite topped bar next to the oval registration desk -- its  suspended lights emit a warm glow, and a mounted flat-screen TV  keeps guests abreast of news and sports action. 

This Best Western is located in a somewhat isolated area about a three-minute drive off the Interstate 40 beltway and residential complexes. There are no restaurants or shops within walking distance -- the nearest restaurant is about a five-minute drive from the hotel. Lackland Air Force Base is an eight-minute drive away, and both SeaWorld San Antonio and the Gateway Hills Golf Course are a 10-minute drive. Downtown San Antonio and such attractions as River Walk, the Alamo, Tower of the Americas, and Hemisfair Park are about a 20-minute drive away, depending on traffic. The Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and the Amtrak Station also are about a 20-minute drive, and San Antonio International Airport is 25 to 30 minutes away by car. 

Though guest rooms at the Best Western Plus Atrea Hotel & Suites have a somewhat generic, chain-hotel look, the result is pleasant, with shades of white, brown, and tan used in patterns and textiles that elevate the rooms above their budget status. Milk-chocolate accent walls coordinate with the cream-colored padded headboards and bedspreads marked with a swirling circular pattern. Copper bed throws and bolster pillows sport a contrasting square print, and tan carpeting and drapes give a basic backdrop. Matching beige upholstered armchairs and ottomans provide seating. All rooms come with flat-screen TVs, MP3 alarm clocks, and free Wi-Fi. Dark wood furniture includes work desks, and tan granite counters hold mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers. Closets are stocked with irons and ironing boards. Simple, beige bathrooms have spacious dark-wood vanities with tan granite tops, hairdryers, and individual toiletries. Showerheads are rainfall style. Double Queen Rooms have shower/tub combos, while Kings have walk-in showers with clear-glass doors framed by dark brown and white tile. Suite options include King and Double Queen with sleeper sofas, as well as two-bedroom, apartment-style suites with full kitchens and living/dining room areas. 

Though it's missing a full restaurant, the Best Western Plus Atrea Hotel & Suites does provide many other features that add to its value as a budget property. A free hot breakfast with eggs and meat is included in room rates. Free coffee is also available in the lobby all day, and an on-site convenience store sells frozen entrees, snacks, beverages, and sundries. The lobby has a nice granite-top bar as well with a flat-screen TV mounted behind it. 

The property's heated indoor pool has an adjoining whirlpool. But both the fitness and business centers are small and limited, though they serve their purpose. The fitness center, open 24 hours a day, has a handful of cardio and weight-training machines. And the business center holds two computer stations with Internet access and a printer. Meeting space is also on-site, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. Valet dry cleaning is available, and parking is free on the hotel’s surface lot. Be aware that the hotel is nonsmoking and does not allow pets.
