Just inside the doors of the Hotel Republic San Diego, Autograph Collection is the lobby lounge, an area with trendy decor including gilded tree-stump side tables, spiky ceiling lights, and blue pin buttoned window seats set against natural-hued curtains. The space sometimes hosts fashion shows, and there’s a glass balcony holding a DJ booth. The on-site restaurant is sleek with light walls, bright orange chairs, and blue booths. The rooftop bar is particularly chic with palms, private cabanas, bottle service, and an artsy bonfire feature made out of stacked red chairs. The overall atmosphere is hip and stylish, drawing a lively crowd.

The hotel isn't on the most attractive block, and the immediate surroundings are mostly commercial. It's around a 10-minute walk to Little Italy and around a 15-minute walk to both Broadway Pier (where the ferry to Coronado departs) and the Gaslamp Quarter, a historical neighborhood home to nightlife and entertainment venues. The Coaster Santa Fe station, the San Diego trolley, and Museum of Contemporary Art are around a five-minute walk away. There are three beaches within a 30-minute drive including Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, and La Jolla Shores, and the airport can be reached in less than 20 minutes by car or public transportation.

Rooms at the hotel are light and modern with a color palette that reflects the ocean. Cushioned window seats offer city views in some rooms. All rooms have stocked minibars and 32-inch flat-screen TVs. Keurig coffee machines are available on request and Wi-Fi is available for a fee. The standard guest rooms (which start at 250 square feet) are on the small side for this category; standard rooms at the Andaz, in comparison, start at 315 square feet.
