The location is a reasonably convenient for exploring downtown San Diego, which is a 20-minute drive away. Aside from the large rooms with full kitchens, there's a free breakfast with lots of variety and also a "social time" with light food and drinks on select weeknights. It's a solid choice for travelers who are fine with staying at a chain.

Behind a partial stone facade, this Residence Inn has a vibrant, modern decor filled with orange, teal and red. The lobby has a fireplace and a small market that sells snacks and small toiletries. The pool area outside is especially pleasant, with a stone-encased barbecue and large chairs gathered around an outdoor fireplace. The overall atmosphere has a laid-back and mellow California vibe.

Off the freeway and within reasonable driving distance of an array of attractions
The hotel is conveniently located directly off of I-15 and the Escondido Freeway. The immediate area has a few gas stations, some fast food places, and a Chili's Grill & Bar within walking distance. It's around a 20-minute drive to the downtown San Diego area, the San Diego Zoo, and Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. Legoland can be reached in 35 to 40 minutes.

The property's 95 rooms, split into studio, one-, and two-bedroom suites, have the same bright and cheerful decor as the rest of the hotel. But they also have a homey feel and look like smartly decorated apartments, right down to the tchotchkes above the couches and the flat-screen TVs. Each room has a kitchen with wood cabinets and stainless steel appliances. Luggage racks are not in the rooms but require a call down to reception. Large bathrooms have tub/shower combos with red-striped curtains.
