Bottom Line

The 91-room Hotel Abri is a stylish haven near Union Square, with concierge services, an Italian restaurant and bar, a boardroom, a 24-hour business center, and a sundries store. Modern rooms have flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges; suites have living rooms and DVD players. It's a great upper-middle-range value for the central location, but it's worth comparing rates with the more upscale Hotel Nikko (which has an indoor pool) and the iconic Sir Francis Drake, which are sometimes not much more expensive.

Hotel Abri

Scene

Historic San Francisco hotel with contemporary decor

The Hotel Abri has been standing near San Francisco’s Union Square since 1907, a year after the city’s historic earthquake. The downtown location, moderate prices, and modern interior designs attract couples, families, and business travelers. The five-story hotel has a historic exterior and contrastingly contemporary interior decor, with pops of orange and red. At the glass entrance are five touchscreen tablets mounted against wavy, orange walls. Old-fashioned hallways are modernized with dark patterned carpeting and sleek ceiling lights and there are two elevators. The front desk has a gumball machine on the counter and is situated next to a sleek lounge with red leather chairs and a gas fireplace.
