Bottom Line

This 48-room property has an upscale, refined vibe that fits in nicely with its location in Pacific Heights, one of the most affluent neighborhoods in San Francisco. While common spaces are few, all are lovely; the lobby, with free coffee, feels like an attractive living room with antique furniture and floral fabrics. The cheery breakfast room is where both the free continental breakfast and the free evening wine reception, complete with hors d'oeuvres, take place. Rooms have look with dark wood furniture, pastel headboards, and gilded accents, and all are incredibly spacious. The on-site fitness center in the basement is small, but guests have free access to a YMCA, and though there's no full restaurant, a limited menu is available for 24-hour room service.

Scene

Refined boutique vibe attracts returning couples.

This boutique property feels akin to an upscale inn, with antique furniture, rich fabrics, and a calm atmosphere throughout. A plethora of freebies makes the price more reasonable, but considering the often high rates, it's not surprising that Hotel Drisco mostly sees older guests seeking a romantic city getaway. The Pacific Heights location also lends to the peaceful vibe, and most guests are happy to explore the neighborhood for gourmet restaurants after having dined on the hotel's free continental breakfast.

Location

In the affluent Pacific Heights neighborhood

Hotel Drisco's location in the largely residential Pacific Heights neighborhood means guests can stroll quiet blocks lined with upscale galleries, boutiques, and antique shops. The hotel is just a few blocks from the 1,491-acre Presidio National Park, with its miles of hiking trails and bicycle routes, and dozens of historic landmarks. A couple historic mansions are also within walking distance, and the airport is about a 30-minute car ride from the hotel.

Rooms

Incredibly spacious, with refined elegance

Rooms at the Hotel Drisco are classically elegant; picture dark wood furniture, comfy beds bedecked with floral throw pillows and pastel-colored headboards, and golden accents on frames and desks. Even standard rooms are incredibly spacious, and all have modern bathrooms, work desks, large closets with robes, mini-fridges, iPod docks, large flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and even Sound+Sleep devices to help guests get a good night's rest. Suites have separate living rooms.

Features

Freebies are plentiful.

Rates here may often be high, but at least they include a vast array of freebies. Everything from continental breakfast to evening wine receptions, morning car service to evening shoe shines, afternoon tea to bike rentals come free of charge. Guests also receive free access to a nearby YMCA which is nice considering that the on-site fitness center is very small. While most guests are tourists, there is a small business center as well as some meeting space. 24-hour room service is available, but the menu largely consists of paninis and there's no full restaurant at the hotel.
