Homey, pet-friendly rooms and suites have flat-screen TVs, microwaves, and mini-fridges, but no air-conditioning. Some also have living rooms and kitchens. Airport shuttles can be arranged for a fee. Guests in need of air-conditioning may prefer a room at the Hotel Del Sol instead.

Marina Motel

Scene

Budget, family-run motel with lush landscaping and private garage parking

The Marina Motel was built to commemorate the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge in 1937 by Henry “Lou” Louis, whose German immigrant father came to the city in 1852 during the California Gold Rush. While his dad searched for gold in Madera, Lou lived in San Francisco with his mom and three siblings. Today Lou’s granddaughters, Heidi and Linda, run the cozy motor lodge, which has flowers and winding vines crawling up the two-story building. A cobblestone driveway runs past the lobby and into a courtyard, where there are private garages and iron benches. Painted bougainvillea and murals add a bit of charm to the motel’s exterior. With its budget prices and covered parking the motel attracts travelers with cars and gets it's fair share of both couples and families.
