  • All rooms have kitchenettes and flat-screen TVs

  • Rooms are large, with patio areas or balconies

  • Convenient location overlooking Parque Forestal, within walking distance of several museums, and a bus stop out front

Cons
  • No elevator

  • Kitchenettes show some wear and tear

  • Kitchenettes not equipped with cooking ware (utensils and tableware in the breakfast room)

Bottom Line

The AH Hotel, overlooking Parque Forestal, is a small budget hotel with just 14 rooms. The decor is minimal, but all apartment-like rooms feature kitchenettes (some show wear and tear), modern two-person dining tables, flat-screen TVs, and an accent wall. Free Internet and free breakfast are available but both are minimal -- Wi-Fi is available in the breakfast room while rooms only have wired Internet, and breakfast options are limited to toast, cereal, and a few packaged baked goods. Nonetheless, the rooms are clean and the location is convenient, making the AH Hotel a good value.

Location

In the downtown area, within walking distance of several museums

AH Hotel is located in Santiago Centro, the city's downtown area. The neighborhood is home to several parks, numerous businesses, and a plethora of Santiago's museums. Nearby public transportation allows for easy access to other areas of the city.

Santiago gets an unfair rap as being less happening than its other South American counterparts, but this couldn't be further from the truth. The city is dynamic, with both modern and ancient buildings brushing up against one another, and Latin and European cultures blending to give the city its unique charm. The city's geography in itself is huge plus: Santiago is lined with snowcapped mountains, and it's possible to ski and be on a beach in the same day. Santiago's central location makes taking trips around Chile fairly easy.

Shopping options cover everything from handmade local products, like alpaca wool clothing and locally made jewelry, to plenty of places to sample and purchase Chilean wines. Art museums showcase everything from fantastic pre-Columbian art to Pablo Neruda's former home. To wind down at the end of the day, visitors and locals alike take advantage of the nightlife in Nunoa and Providencia neighborhoods.
