Alexandra Hotel

Alexandra Hotel is situated on landscaped grounds with palm trees, housed in a whitewashed building that's typical of architecture on the island, with arches and light-blue shutters and trim. The vibe is friendly and relaxed, and guests mainly gather in breakfast room, which offers sea views, and around the pool in summer on a deck with thatched umbrellas. In warm weather, breakfast is served on the patio of the poolside bar. The airport is very close to the hotel, and while some guests enjoy watching planes take off and land, others are bothered by the noise. The Alexandra draws international leisure travelers, particularly couples. 

The Alexandra Hotel is in Kamari on the east side of Santorini, a five-minute walk from the Aegean Sea and the north end of black-sand Kamari Beach, where sun loungers are available to rent. It's roughly a five-minute drive or 15-minute walk from the hotel to the heart of Kamari, which features tavernas, bars, shops, and mini-golf, and where the bus station is located. It's also about a five-minute drive from the hotel to the town's open-air cinema. Ancient Thera on Messavouno Mountain offers superb views of the island and sea -- it’s a little more than 10 minutes by car, as is the town of Fira and its Old Port. The hotel is a five-minute drive from Santorini (Thira) International Airport and a 20-minute drive from the Athinios Port Ferry Terminal. 

Guest rooms at the Alexandra have a dated budget look, with tile floors, mostly bare whitewashed walls, floral-print bedspreads, and inexpensive wooden furniture, and they have old tube TVs. Still, spaces are pleasant and comfortable, and all come with air-conditioning and mini-fridges, although only apartments have kettles. The hotel only guarantees free Wi-Fi in the lobby, though some guests say they can access it in rooms. Apartments feature kitchens with dining tables, cookware, tableware, hotplates, and sinks. Each unit opens to a furnished balcony or patio, some with pool or sea views, and some rooms open directly to the pool. Bathrooms are basic and also need an upgrade. They have stall showers, though many lack shower curtains and there are no hooks for the handheld showerheads. Hairdryers are included but there are no toiletries. Despite the hotel’s location near the airport, noise in guest rooms is not generally an issue. 

The Alexandra Hotel features a decent set of property amenities for a two-pearl hotel. The seasonal outdoor swimming pool is a decent size at 15 meters long, and there's a poolside bar that serves coffee, drinks, non-alcoholic beverages, and comfort food like burgers, hot dogs, club sandwiches, and Greek salads. The hotel doesn't have a full restaurant, but it offers a free continental breakfast. It features Greek yogurt, fruit, cereal, and other cold items, and gets mostly positive reviews from guests for its quality and variety. The Alexandra also has a 24-hour front desk with tourist assistance, plus free on-site parking and free Wi-Fi in the lobby.
