Bottom Line

While most Santorini hotels are upscale with a price tag to match, the 15-room Oia's Sunset provides friendly, low-frills, self-catering accommodation in a convenient location. Set in Oia town center, the famous sea views are only visible from some apartments (and nothing like the panoramas you get on the hillside) but public transportation for exploring the island is close by. Rooms and apartments are clean and cozy, with kitchens and private balconies. The deep pool is relatively large for the area, and if budget's an issue, you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere offering this kind of value.

Oia’s Sunset Apartments

Scene

Friendly, informal small hotel

Off a busy and bustling side street in Oia town, through a pretty blue wrought iron gate, and up a short staircase is the typically whitewashed apartment complex of Oia's Sunset. Architecture is slightly boxier and more modern than many other hotels in the area, while retaining plenty of charm, helped along by a liberal scattering of potted flowers, scrubs, and cacti. The atmosphere is definitely more informal than other Santorini hotels, attracting younger, more bohemian couples and families who are happy to sacrifice a panoramic view of the famous Santorini caldera for more laid back, and better value, accommodation.

Location

Set in the center of the small but bustling town of Oia in northwest Santorini

Oia's Sunset is situated in the center of the town of Oia, in the northwest tip of Santorini. It's a minute walk from the bus terminal station and public parking, and the same distance from the main caldera footpath. Getting to Santorini involves a 45-minute flight from Athens, and it's then about 12 miles from the airport. Ferries are also available from surrounding islands.

Rooms

Simple air-conditioned apartments with private terraces or balconies

The complex consists of 15 air-conditioned apartments for between two and four people, all of which are simply decorated with typical white walls, basic Mediterranean style furnishings, and tiled floors. Units comprise of fully-equipped kitchens and living rooms, and extend to private terraces or balconies (only some with sea views). In-room amenities also include TVs and hair dryers.

Features

Good-size pool and small, friendly bar

The swimming pool at the Oia's Sunset is large by Santorini standards, thought the surrounding terrace is a little short on space and sun loungers. There is a small friendly bar with a few stools, serving coffee and other beverages, with a small collection of books and board games. Wi-Fi is available on-site, as is a laundry service.
