Bottom Line

The Hotel Comfort Nova Paulista is a standard, budget chain hotel with updated furnishings, though it's generic style feels quite plain in vibrant Sao Paulo. The 171 guest rooms arranged over 19 floors cater to both value-minded business travelers and families alike. Rooms are arguable the most appealing part of the hotel, since they're decorated with bold colors. There’s a simple restaurant (breakfast included), an outdoor pool, and a tiny fitness room, but overall the amenities don't stand out. While not actually located on Paulista Avenue, the hotel is situated close to the metro. It’s a reliable, budget-friendly option with few surprises, but also little personality. For something with a bit more pizazz, check rates at the nearby EZ Aclimacao Hotel.

Comfort Hotel Nova Paulista

Scene

A bustling, modern chain hotel with a pleasant, generic style

The Comfort Nova Paulista’s sleek, modern facade towers over the busy thoroughfare of Rua Vergueiro. Inside the hotel, the lobby may feel familiar to anyone who has stayed at a corporate chain: lots of white marble, contemporary black leather couches, a modern look with clean lines but a cold feel. From the common areas to the rooms, the style is rather plain and generic, but on the plus side it is accessible and unoffending. The hotel is part of the Atlantica Hotels chain, which operates a number of properties in the Sao Paulo area. The bright, airy lobby area is noisy and bustling with activity as families and business guests scramble through. The small bar and restaurant are located right next to the main entrance, contributing to the busy atmosphere. Cool water with fresh fruit near the front desk is a nice detail.

Location

Close to two metro stations -- but not on or near Paulista Avenue

Although the hotel is named the Comfort Nova Paulista, it’s not actually located on Paulista Avenue. It’s situated a few miles south of Paulista, making for a more than 20-minute walk to the city’s main hub. The hotel faces directly onto Rua Vergueiro, a busy road with fast moving traffic. On the plus side, the hotel is conveniently located for public transportation. It's situated between two metro stops, each about a five-minute walk away. The surrounding neighborhood is known as Vila Mariana, and does offer a selection of shopping and dining options nearby -- though for trendier dining and nightlife, guests may want to travel to nearby Jardins. The hotel is also located near the popular tourist site of Parque Ibirapuera, where several museums are located.

Rooms

Bold rooms with flat-screen TVs and updated bathrooms

The 171 rooms include Superior and Deluxe categories, as well as four suites. The suites feature an additional room with a sitting area and a small balcony. The Superior and Deluxe Rooms are similar in size, but have different amenities and furnishings. The Deluxe Rooms, located from the 13th floor and up, include bigger flat-screen TVs, an ironing board, upgraded coffee and tea facilities, and slightly upgraded decor that features pops of bold purple and blue accents. All rooms include free Wi-Fi, a safe, air-conditioning, and a refrigerated minibar (fees apply). Across the categories, all rooms offer newer wood laminate floors and updated bathrooms with modern sinks and walk-in showers with fresh white tile. Toiletries and hairdryers are provided.

Features

A casual restaurant with a billiard table, small outdoor pool, and a tiny fitness room

Features are minimal, but add value to a stay. As soon as you step into the hotel, you’ll notice a small bar to the right and a seating area for the restaurant. The restaurant is a casual, cafeteria-like space that’s open to the lobby. The restaurant features an international menu, with a focus on pasta and pizza (baked in an  brick pizza oven). Breakfast is included for all guests, and room service is available 24 hours. In the back section of the restaurant seating area, there’s a billiard table that guests can use.

Located behind the hotel, is the outdoor pool in a sunny space. Unfortunately the area around the pool is limited and there are only a few chairs for lounging. Overlooking the pool, is the tiny fitness room with two dated treadmills and a few other pieces of equipment. Since the fitness room is small, the hotel staff noted they offer special deals for partner gyms in the neighborhood.

The hotel offers three meeting rooms of different sizes, which can accommodate from groups of 14 up to 100 people for events. There’s also an outdoor terrace on the second floor in the front of the building that looks out onto the noisy street below. Wi-Fi is free throughout. Parking is available for a fee. Pets are welcome for an additional fee.
