Falkensteiner Resort Capo Boi

Villasimius, Sardinia

Falkensteiner Resort Capo Boi is set among green lawns, clusters of pine trees, and flowering plants. The upscale, 108-room hotel is decorated in a Moorish style, and offers gorgeous views of surrounding mountains from several areas, including both outdoor pools and the pretty white-sand cove beach. However, there have been guests complaints that the meals lack variety, and that the showers in the rooms are small.

This upscale, 114-room chain resort is in St. Peter’s Marina, a short walk from a wide, white-sand beach. The hotel's entertainment staff organizes activities on the beach and at the big outdoor pool (there's a separate children’s pool near a grassy playground). The buffet restaurant serves three meals daily and offers a variety of regional and international choices, and a second restaurant (not included in the all-inclusive price) serves Sardinian cuisine. All rooms have flat-screen TVs and minibars, but no Wi-Fi.

3

Marmorata Village

Santa Teresa Gallura, Sardinia

The beachfront Marmorata Village is a mid-range property so huge, it has trains to shuttle guests between its three restaurants, three pools, sports and leisure facilities, and room buildings. The 598 rooms are homey, spacious, and equipped with patios or balconies -- many with views of the sea -- but they don't have air-conditioning, reliable free Wi-Fi, or a modern look. All room rates include a free buffet breakfast, and all-inclusive packages are available. Food receives mixed reviews, however. The family-friendly hotel has a small beachfront lined with loungers and umbrellas, and is a ten-minute drive from the scenic Santa Teresa seaport.

4

Eden Village Colostrai

Muravera, Sardinia

Eden Village Colostrai is an easy-on-the-wallet resort modeled after a village. Its 148 rooms are extremely basic, but all are airy and spacious. The hotel has manicured lawns, a big outdoor pool and a children’s pool, and a white, sandy beach with a bar and lounge chairs with umbrellas. Eden Village's all-inclusive package covers meals and drinks, but not coffee or custom cocktails. Some drawbacks: the evening entertainment can fall short (and get repetitive) and a fee is imposed for for card access to the pool and recreation areas, as well as for beach chairs.

5

Eden Village Altura

Villasimius, Sardinia

Eden Village Altura is a mid-range chain resort hotel with 73 guest rooms less than two miles from the center of Villasimius. The small pool has views of the Maddalena Archipelago, and a white, sandy beach is less than 200 yards away. The charming guest rooms are divided among an annex building and bungalows with their own private patios. A buffet restaurant serves three meals daily and has indoor and outdoor seating. The entertainment staff organizes daily activities for guests and puts on evening entertainment. Prices at the hotel can be steep. There is a fee for card services granting access to the pool, soccer/tennis court, and beach chairs, and the hotel lacks a fitness center or beach bar.

6

Bungalow Club Village

San Teodoro, Sardinia

Located on a pristine white-sand beach, the mid-range Bungalow Club Village has a homey Sardinian feel. Low stucco buildings with terra-cotta tile roofs are reached by winding stone pathways that thread through the hotel's lush tropical gardens. The 120 ground-floor rooms are bright and basic, with artsy furniture and ceiling fans. (Air-conditioning costs extra in lower-category rooms.) The buffet-style restaurant's decor has a thatch ceiling and whitewashed beams, but mealtimes can get crowded. The pool and common areas buzz with activity for kids and adults, including a full array of water-related activities, fitness classes, and live evening entertainment. A solarium deck extends over the Mediterranean, with a ladder inviting guests for a dip, and the pavilion bar has an open-air dance floor.
