Bottom Line

The 24-room Olde Harbour Inn is a charming, historic property across the street from the river in downtown Savannah. A 19th-century former warehouse, the inn gracefully marries modern furnishings with original features to create a fresh, homey vibe. All suites, the rooms are spacious and serene with a boutique hotel look. Serving daily breakfast, evening wine and cheese, and ice cream at turndown, this upper-middle-range property takes great care to ensure guests' comfort. Suites can be noisy, due to the hotel's popular downtown location, and wood floors and beams. For exploring historic Savannah, however, this location couldn't be more convenient.

Olde Harbour Inn

Scene

A charming property that skillfully mixes its historic roots with contemporary style

The Olde Harbour Inn offers charm, history, and location in the alluring package of a 24-room bed-and-breakfast. With a building dating back to 1812, the Olde Harbour was once a riverside warehouse. It has kept some details of its era, such as heavy, wooden window shutters, and wood-plank floors, ceilings, and walls in some rooms and common spaces. Standing in the lobby, there's a sense of history, but the decor is modern — if a kind of modern style that celebrates the past; couches and chairs are tall-backed and narrow, and while obviously new and in good condition, feel reminiscent of decades gone by. The large sideboard behind the reception desk — an actual wooden desk that's more personal than the typical hotel counter — is classic and grand, but its mirrored cabinet doors lend modern flair. The room's soft gray palette, matte wood-plank floors, and strategically placed, modern overhead lamps further the airy, contemporary feel. While the hotel has relatively low ceilings and smaller windows typical of old buildings, the gray and white color scheme throughout the property holds light and gives a sense of spaciousness. Guests are typically couples, as the setting has an old fashioned romance to it, though suites are well-suited to small families or groups of friends, as well. Some say the building is haunted by the ghost of a worker killed in a fire during the early years of the warehouse.

Location

In the heart of historic downtown Savannah

The Olde Harbour Inn couldn't be more convenient for a tourist looking to explore Savannah. Across from the river, with the Old Town Trolley running past its front steps, the hotel is in an area bustling with sightseers during the day and partiers at night. As such, it can get a little loud at the Olde Harbour, particularly in street-facing rooms. For guests looking to explore the history, shopping, and dining that Savannah has to offer, the Old Harbour Inn offers a lot. The Maritime Museum, City Market, and Jepson Center for the Arts, for instance, are all within a 15-minute walk. Forsyth Park is a 30-minute stroll. The airport is about 25 minutes' drive.

Rooms

Large, contemporary suites with wood floors and serene colors

All rooms are suites at the Olde Harbour Inn, and all offer space and comfort. Decorated similarly to common spaces, with a gray-blue and white color scheme, suites have living rooms with sophisticated, modern decor: neutral couches, clean-lined armchairs, oval wooden coffee tables, and understated, metallic lamps, for example. Suites are decorated differently, according to type, but all maintain the same contemporary elegance. The open-plan design makes suites feel even bigger, almost like studio apartments, and some have two bedrooms and loft space and/or balconies. Bathrooms are simple and can be a little on the small side; all have shower/tub combos and bath products. Suites also have wet bars with mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers. King Suites have larger kitchenettes, but, strangely, almost no dishes or utensils. Each suite has at least one flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi, two bathrobes, and a safe. Guests sometimes complain of noise between rooms, particularly footsteps from above.
