Bottom Line

Located on a quieter block of downtown Seattle, this stylish two-pearl boutique hotel dates back more than 100 years and offers a variety of rooms ranging from small European-style spaces with shared bathrooms to a large suite with a separate living room and a kitchenette. All rooms are all nicely decorated with unmistakable charm, and many are considerably more affordable than what's on offer at many downtown hotels. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel but can be weak in places. Keep in mind that parking is not available on-site and breakfast is not included. The nearby Belltown Inn is another value option nearby, and it has a rooftop deck and free bikes to borrow.

Moore Hotel

Scene

Stately but cool and modern budget hotel

The Moore Hotel is situated in a seven-story building that dates back to 1903. The lobby is classy, with a marble reception desk, leather couches and armchairs and large bronze tear drop-shaped sculptures. There is an Apple computer set up in one area for guest use and the entire front wall is covered with windows. The hallways on each floor have large doors and are lined with full-length curtains and have small pieces of artwork on display by a local glass-works artist.

Location

Downtown location, next to the Moore Theater and near Pike Place Market

Although the hotel is directly downtown, it's in a quieter part of the city center. The historic Moore Theater, a regular venue for rock concerts, is right next door and there are a few residential apartment buildings surrounding the hotel. It's a three-minute walk down Second Avenue to the downtown epicenter of restaurants, department stores, and coffee shops. Pike Place Market is a five-minute walk away, while Safeco Field and the adjacent train station is about a 30-minute walk. There are also bus stops and monorail stops within a 10-minute walk of the hotel, offering quick, regular service to the ferry terminals and most sites in and around Seattle, including the Space Needle and the Experience Music Project. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is less than an hour away on public transport, or just over 20 minutes away by car.

Rooms

Range of stylish rooms, from budget digs with shared bathrooms clear up to a suite with kitchenette

Every room is a little different at The Moore, but all have a stylish, modern look in spite of the building’s age. All rooms come with small desks, chairs, and flat-screen TVs. The cheapest rooms have their own sinks but share a community bathroom down the hall. Room 724 is the largest unit and has hardwood flooring. It's set up like a self-contained luxury apartment, with locally made sculptures and vases lining the separate living room and dining area. There is a kitchenette equipped with an electric stovetop, a microwave, a large refrigerator, a coffeemaker, and a selection of crockery, dishes, and utensils. Some bathrooms have old shower/tub combos while others have large walk-in showers with curtains. Hair dryers are only available upon request and rooms don’t have individual air-conditioning. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel but the connection can be spotty in some rooms.
