Arroyo Pinion Hotel, an Ascend Hotel Collection Member

Arroyo Pinion Hotel is a two-floor adobe-inspired building with Southwestern personality. Evergreen and leafy trees, clay pots filled with flowers, and a stone fountain make for attractive grounds outside, and there's a patio table on the brick terrace just off the parking lot for guests looking to relax outdoors. Dark brown walls, earth tone armchairs and rugs, and landscape photos help bring the feel of the outdoors into the lobby. A terra cotta-colored deck surrounds the pool area where tables and chairs under orange umbrellas offer a spot where for taking in the Red Rocks views. All in all, the hotel has a pleasant, easy-going vibe, though it can't shake it's motel vibes, as all rooms are accessed from external walkways. Most guests are couples and families interested in exploring Sedona area hiking, shopping, and dining. 

The hotel is located on busy Highway 89A, Sedona's main drag. Businesses line the road, and there are several shops and places to eat within walking distance, from locally owned restaurants to chain stores. The area has a definite suburban feel, and a car is the easiest way to get around. Central Sedona is just five minutes down the road, and is home to Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village, which has dozens of artisanal boutiques. Don't expect a quaint downtown though, as much of what the town offers is spread out across a large area. The famous Chapel of the Holy Cross is a 15-minute drive from the hotel and has amazing landscape views and a gift shop. There are several famous rock formations in the area including Coffee Pot Rock (an 8-minute drive), Cathedral Rock (a 15-minute drive), and Bell Rock (a 20-minute drive). It's a seven-minute drive down 89A to the center of town. The closest airport is in Flagstaff, about 50 minutes north. The Grand Canyon and Phoenix both take around two hours to reach by car, albeit in opposite directions from Sedona.

Bright photos of the Sedona landscape add some color to the otherwise muted tones of the rooms at the Arroyo Pinion Hotel. Rooms are spacious and have a homey, modern look characterized by upholstered chairs and ottomans, wooden desks, and cabinets holding coffee machines, microwaves, and mini-fridges. There are large wooden statement headboards over the beds, and tones of soft yellow and maroon in the soft furnishings. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and USB-charging outlets on nightstands. Thoughtful extras like bottled water, pretzels, and microwave popcorn are a nice touch and make the rooms feel a bit more up-market. Bathrooms include shower/tub combos and soap, shampoo, and conditioner in eco-friendly dispensers. Rooms with extra amenities like fireplaces, whirlpools, and furnished patios are also available. The hotel only has two levels, but there aren’t any elevators, so guests with a lot of luggage or limited mobility may want to opt for a ground-floor room. Several guests have reported noise issues from neighboring rooms and throughout the hotel.

The hotel provides a free breakfast with hot items like scrambled eggs and sausage as well as bagels and make-your-own waffles -- the spread is fine, but the food earns mixed reviews. The outdoor pool and whirlpool is a highlight in warm weather, and there are some distant and partially obscured views of the Red Rocks available from the pool deck. There is a fitness room with limited cardio equipment available as well. The hotel has coin-operated laundry machines, and detergent is available for purchase at the front desk. Two meeting rooms are available that can accommodate up to 25 or eight guests for private events; the smaller room has a full kitchen and four connecting rooms. Free parking is available and WI-Fi is also free. Pets are allowed.
