On the outskirts of Sedona, the Poco Diablo Resort is popular with families, couples looking for a romantic getaway, and pretty much anyone who wants to spend their vacation engaged in outdoor activities such as tennis and golf. The sand-colored buildings that make up this spacious 137-room property blend into the local red rock landscape quite well. Potted flowers and a sprawling grassy golf course add pops of color to the otherwise desert-hued surroundings. The lobby has olive and brown walls, wooden beams, and Southwestern art, as well as a few low seats for guests checking in. The hotel added an outdoor fireplace, with alfresco seating, after our visit. The hotel is owned by the Fort McDowell Yavapai Indian Tribe, although it's not on the reservation.

The Poco Diablo is located on Highway 89A, which can get busy at times but is generally quiet and safe. Guests will need a car as the area is primarily residential, and there aren't any sights, shops, or restaurants within reasonable walking distance. Shopping and dining in Sedona is only five minutes away by car, and the airport is a 10-minute drive away without traffic.
