Bottom Line

The Wyndham Sedona is a upper-mid-range time-share condo hotel in a scenic, residential part of Sedona, with one and two-bedroom apartment-style suites. The pool deck and many rooms have views of the surrounding red rocks, and the hotel is easily accessible from Highway 89. Geared toward families, the hotel offers lots of facilities and activities for kids, including a large pool and a game room. The low-key hotel doesn’t have much character or distinctive decor, but it's clean, modern, and offers the convenience of apartment living and home cooking in a convenient location. There are a number of similarly priced hotels in Sedona with better views of the red rocks, but for tourists or business travelers who plan to be on the go or who want an apartment, the Wyndham is a comfortable, well-kept option.

Wyndham Sedona

Scene

Clean, comfortable, and modern, with nice views but little Southwestern flair

A time-share condo hotel, the Wyndham Sedona is clean, pleasant, and modern, with bright, contemporary decor that feels a bit generic for this caliber of hotel. The lobby has some Southwestern flair, with a desert-inspired color palette, dark leather chairs, and a Navajo-style rug over the tiled floor; large windows make the space cheerful and airy. The front desk is made of stone and wood, and the warm colors make the space inviting, as does the coffee cart in the corner. Interior hallways are hung with photographs of the red rocks, and the grounds are nicely landscaped with native trees and plants. The pool area -- with excellent views of the mountains -- is surrounded by a large deck and a fleet of sunbeds, although there is little shade, except for a few tables with beach umbrellas. The hotel primarily attracts families, who take advantage of the amenities, and longer-stay business travelers who appreciate having an apartment.

Location

On the west side of Sedona, close to the airport, near Sugarloaf Mountain and Amitabha Stupa

The Wyndham Sedona is located on the west side of Sedona, one block from Highway 89, three miles from the Sedona Airport. The area is quiet and mostly residential, with another Wyndham property next door, and is well-lit at night. There are nice views of the red rocks, but they're not the best views in the area. Sugarloaf Mountain Trailhead and the famed Buddhist shrine, Amitabha Stupa, are two miles away. The Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts market is a three-mile drive. Phoenix Airport is 125 miles from the Wyndham. Free parking is available, but must be reserved in advance.

Rooms

One- and two-bedroom apartment-style suites with laundry, full kitchens, balconies, and free Wi-Fi

The apartment-style rooms at the Wyndham Sedona have either one or two bedrooms, and most have furnished private balconies; all have fully equipped kitchens with a full-size stove, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, coffeemaker, cook- and serving-ware. While the apartments are large, with a separate dining and living area, they're generic in style, with chain-style furnishings such as wooden tables, red and brown chairs and sofas, and patterned drapes. All have washer/dryers, free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs with DVD players. Bathrooms are modern and large enough, with granite countertops, whirlpool tubs, and separate showers. There are sofa beds, but additional beds are not permitted. Guests with mobility issues should request ground-floor rooms, as there are no elevators. Poolside rooms do get some noise when the pool area is busy. North- and east-facing rooms on the second floor have the best views.

Features

Large pool with sundeck, gas grills, game room, and fitness center with sauna

As a condo-hotel, the Wyndham Sedona doesn't have a bar or restaurant, but it does have a large pool with a hot tub and a sundeck; music is played there throughout the day. There are barbecues and picnic tables around the property for guest use. A game room has air hockey, foosball, board games, and checkers, and activities for kids are often organized. DVDs are available to rent for a fee. The small fitness center has a few cardio machines and some free weights, and looks out toward the pool; an attached sauna is a good spot to relax after a hike or a workout. There is a safe deposit box at the front desk for guest valuables, but none in rooms. There's also a low-key meeting room with a nice peaked ceiling and lots of natural light.
